Nationwide to be fully liquidated HANNES Muller, Nationwide’s liquidator, has confirmed that attempts to save the airline have been abandoned and that the airline will go into full liquidation. This comes after months of deliberations about selling the airline and reports that the airline would resurface as a low-cost domestic carrier. Muller told TravelHub that passengers would most likely be compensated but he was unable to confirm an exact amount. Muller is urging passengers to send their claim forms through to Tshwane Trust’s offices as soon as possible. Passengers who booked their unflown Nationwide tickets with a MasterCard or Visa credit card can claim a refund from the bank that issued their card. Walter Volker, md of the Payment Association of South Africa, says the international MasterCard and Visa rules apply in South Africa. The rules state that if a person does not get a service they have paid for or the goods purchased are faulty or did not arrive, they are entitled to a full refund. The refund can be claimed from the issuer of the card, who will then claim the money back from the bank that sponsors the merchant, which in Nationwide’s case is Standard Bank.
