Safari Countdown Begins!

subsailor74Safari Countdown Begins!
I promised my wife I would not start getting my kit together for my upcoming hunt in Zimbabwe until March. Well, today is the first of March, and as soon as I got back from Church this morning, I started putting my stuff together. I will probably repack several times before I leave, but I must admit that I find putting everything together and packing to be an exciting prelude to the trip. This year it will be a buffalo hunt in the Save Conservancy with PH Mike Payne. I will be accompanied by Beretta682E, and I am sure there will never be a dull moment in our hunt! We are actually getting to Zimbabwe a few days early so we can go to Nyanga in the Eastern Highlands to fly fish for rainbow trout in some of Zimbabwe's crystal clear lakes. I have no idea if Mike has ever handled a fly rod, but I do know we will have a blast.
Mike and I depart from Dulles on 29 April on SAA - is anyone else out there going to be on the plane with us? If so, the drinks are on me. See you there.

Safari2Preparation is half the fun!
Nice not having to worry about permits/quota for a change?

pagosawingnutDrats! You're leaving way before me. I have to wait until July 5th!
Here's to hoping that you have a great trip.

FrostbitAdmiral,

Wow Admiral you are organized. No wonder Uncle Sam gave you command of a nuclear sub.
I am the worst packer for my hunting trips. I regularly stop at costco on the way to the airport to buy stuff including a camera (really bad idea to buy a dslr on way to africa).
This thread has got me going - just ordered a camelback and a gamin gps on amazon.
Need to get stuff packed and guns sighted in next 6 weeks.

Yup - I should take my $2K german ones - instead of buying new $500 Nikons (*damn good glass) every time I forget the german ones.
Africa I can do without binos - but they are a must have in Alaska.
I need to create ready kit for Africa. And Africa is easy - don't need specialized clothing.

subsailor74Mike - I E-Mailed you a copy of my packing list for this year. I also agree with you when it comes to binoculars for where we are hunting. I will be taking my Swarovski 8x20 pocket binoculars, and they will work just fine. I expect the bush to still be pretty thick in early May.

That is a great list. You are very precise Admiral. I just try to make sure I got the gun and the ammo and good shoes. I will use the list now are a basis to get stuff put together.

BiebsOnce you take a shot, be prepared for what sounds like full auto weaponry "backing you up" :-)

Only reason you have a Moose on the wall is my backing up
The admiral is a crack shot and needs no backing up - unlike you

Tracker49We leave on April 7 and have started digging things out. Good thing that I did, as I forgot that we threw away one of our bags after the last trip (ramp monkeys broke a roller/leg off of one of them and have to get another), also can't find one back back. Ditto on the replacement.
