We are flying Emirates for the first time this year. Cattle class, of course.
How does the seating comfort compare to SAA and Delta in coach? Seat comfort, leg room and so on.

Terrible

Bastards squeeze as many as possible 3-4-3 in 777

Much better in a380 just cause dimension make it tough to squeeze.

guys with wide shoulders sucks - the seats are narrower than shoulder width. Get a window and lean into window.

Entertainment is good. Food is good.

Their US (Orlando) local airport service claims to be subcontracted. They could not and would not let me upgrade to business on my flight even though emirates sent me an email for a upgrade.

Plane was empty so I actually liked it in the back. They won’t be empty come summer.

Emirates frequent flyer miles suck and expire. I am sitting at dubai airport trying to figure a way to burn miles. May buy car lottery tickets.

I prefer delta to emirates in coach. Delta is much better on miles.

Emirates baggage service is spotty but their gun baggage service is excellent.

I actually thought it was fine. Book the economy plus or whatever it is they are calling it now. Basically, its the seats across from the lavs and where the flight attendant jump seats are. You'll have extra leg room. Ask for the window or (preferably) the aisle seat and you'll be pretty comfortable.

I've been to Zim four times now on Emirates. They now charge you for pre-selecting a seat. The seats are pretty comfortable compared to US domestic economy, but it is hard for me to enjoy the good food when cramped, and I like to get up and stretch on those long flights. For our trip last July, I paid for the bulkhead seats and it was worth it. Much more room, I could stretch out my legs, and it was easy to get up and walk or visit the head. No one was next to us in that row of three, so we had plenty of room. Money well spent.

What sucked with Emirates is they weighted my carry on in Seattle going over and returning weighted my carryon in Harare and Dubai. The limit was 15 pounds. If it was over I could check it as baggage for $200 or pay the $200 and carry it on. They are also very strict about firearms and ammo. I prefer to stay with United or Delta and stay away from the Middle East.

Take this for what it's worth.

A wise man once told me, "If you can afford to fly first class, even if you have to scrimp to do so, and you don't, then after you are dead, your children will."

Emirates business class is better than first class on many other airlines, and it's only sofa about twice the cost of economy, at least in my experience. One can recline his seat to horizontal, or any other degree of incline, and sleep comfortably. The food, drink and service are impeccable. Truly luxurious.

IMO, it is money well spent.

As been said before. The flight attendants on Emirates are much easier to look at on those long flights, compared to the tired old ladies on Delta, BA and United.

Careful about bulkhead seats. That's where they put families with bassinettes (hang on wall). Seen it happen for a 15+ hour flight.

Upgraded to Business and First a couple times. First was an amazing experience on the A380. The A380 also has the bar at the back of the top deck. Super cool. Get to meet lots of interesting ppl.

I do worry my scrimping on economy will be repaid by some charity organizer flying first class on my dime after I am gone Wink

Business class would be lovely, but the fare differential is the trophy fee for a Cape buffalo. I'd rather hunt! I did run into the carry-on weighing in Dubai once. Two suggestions: If you have something relatively heavy in the carry-on, leave it out of the bag and next to you at the gate. Also, bring a jacket with cargo pockets and load up those pockets. When the lovely lady comes around with the scale, she'll ignore the items outside of the bag.

Indeed. When booking, it appeared I had the middle to myself. As the boarding was done, I had a mother and child joining me. Luckily, the child wasn’t too bad, but I don’t sleep on planes anyway.

Cal I have been caught on the 15 pound weight before. After the first time, I purchased a lite bag for carry on, and picked up a small shopping tie string bag that collapses (the kind you can use for produce at the grocery store).

So now for my carry-on I have a lite weight bag that weighs about 2 1/2 lbs an the tie string sack (3 ozs). As they walk around the room weighing bags or at the gate and I have the contents divided into my carry on and personal item. Then when after you board, every thing is placed back into the original carry on bag. I have this process figured out before I leave the house. I tend to weigh every bag and divide the carry on bag items so I know how to split them. I usually have about 20 pounds in the carry on bag so it is easy for me to split them.

Remember, You get a personal item and a carry on bag, think out side the box.

If you fly coach on an Emirates A380, try to get a window seat in row 68, either seat A or K IIRC. This is one row behind the exit row seats and there is no seat in front of you. You have 10 feet of leg room and it’s super easy to leave and return to your seat. Those are the two best seats in economy class.

If you are on the 777 with 3-4-3 seating configuration, I suggest Row 42. It's near the back obviously but as the aircraft narrows toward the back, seating is changed to 2-4-2. We have found this first row of"2" seats to be fine.

Damn, you must be finding some cheap buffalo trophy fees, as the difference in the 2 fares is usually about $2000-2500. coffee

I don't to go as often as most on this site, but when I do I normally go first (I am trying Qatar business on the next trip). I used miles my four trips and have bought miles tickets for the upcoming trip.

I have travelled all over the world in the past in economy.

Now in my older years, and all the hassles one has to go through the bloody airports, I like to be comfortable in my own peace and quiet, and away from others, so I travel First.
