Flying out of DFW today on QA with a connection in JNB on a separate ticket with Airlink to Windhoek. In the past when I’ve done this, QA and Emirates wouldn’t check me all the way, since it was 2 separate tickets. I knew it was doable because I’ve done it on the reverse trip with no problem, even flying out of small airports like Maun, Kasane and East London. Today, the ticket agent couldn’t have been more accommodating. Ten minutes and my bags were checked to Windhoek and all boarding passes for the entire flight were issued. Kudos to Qatar Airlines! They (airline) did that for me flying from Boise to Addis Ababa. Then I spent a month in africa with only my backpack, despite showing them where my bag was with the air tag in it . I now know how little I need to travel with

I have come to think that it all depends 100% on who you get. There are two kinds of ticket agents, just as there are two kinds of people: Smart and Dumb. One finds both kinds in all walks of life. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

We’ve flown Qatar the last 3-4 trips out of DFW and have had bags checked thru to Harare and Biera, both times were forced to claim bags at Joburg due to Airlink firearm/ammo policy (probably due to the ability to collect a fee), on the reverse flights our bags were checked all the way thru and went all the way. Guess it depends. Will find out in about 4 hours how it works this time Karl Evans

I have had numerous incidents with airline personnel at airports traveling with firearms. It all depends on the person you are dealing with. There are normal professionals doing their job which makes life easy. There are idiots who have no idea what to do. And there are anti gun lot who will make your life as hard as possibly. I used to bring back rifles and handguns from different countries in Europe. Most if the time things go smoothly - especially from Austria and Germany. The UK has some utter idiots. My late friend, Jeremy Clowes, a direct Holland and Holland, used to say “some mothers DO have them!”

I used to spend hours in that showroom. The people working there were very knowledgeable, but some had weird ideas that anything with H&H on it works like magic! Jeremy used to stay at my house in Dubai, and he used to tell me his staff enjoyed arguing with THAT ARAB!
