Brace yourselves for cold, wet spell - Met MARANYANE NGWANAAMOTHO Staff Writer From MmegiOnline June 7, 2011 Heavy rains can be expected in the country today and tomorrow, the Department of Meteorological Services has announced. In a press statement, the department said that rains were expected to start on Monday evening over the Kgalagadi and Gantsi districts and would intensify and spread to the Southern, Southeast, Kgatleng and Kweneng districts today. Cloudy and cold conditions with widespread thundershowers are expected in the mentioned districts. Heavy falls with windy conditions can be expected in some areas. "These conditions are expected to persist until Wednesday. Very cold conditions are expected over the southern half on Wednesday and Thursday," reads part of the statement. The department said that a westerly trough that will start affecting the country today and further strengthen and intensify tomorrow would trigger the anticipated rains. The trough will culminate into a "cut-off" low-pressure system, which will inevitably induce intense instability across the southern-half of the country, including the Central District. It is expected that the rains might cause damage to crops, livestock and create inconvenience to the public in their daily lives. Meanwhile, it has been predicted that Chobe and Ngamiland would be partly cloudy and warm today, fair and mild tomorrow until Thursday. Maximum temperatures around the country will be over 21 Degrees Celsius and above while the lowest temperature will be 9 degrees Celsius. This will be in Tsabong and Werda.
