Good morning collective. I have a hunt booked with Mark Young and Muchinga next July. There are two of us and we will be flying Emirates first or business. I am considering bringing (3) rifles. I would probably put 2 in one case and another case for the single. IS this possible? Extra fees? I realize the 5kg ammo limit, which will be easy enough to do.

This might help, although no mention of any limit on number of firearms carried. I checked because I am off to Zim later this month and need to obtain the prior approval for transit through Dubai.

Scroll down until you find the Firearms info. From what I read the greater concern seems to be overall luggage dimensions rather than pieces of luggage. Probably wouldn't hurt to ask your travel agent for more details though.

Brent,

I would recommend purchasing a 3 gun case. I believe a Tuffpak will accommodate 3 rifles and won't break the bank. I promise you that dragging two gun cases and the rest of your kit around will be a huge pain. I don't think there are any issues with three rifles.

Mark,
Out of curiosity, does Zambia set any limit on the number of firearms one can bring into the country on a temporary basis ?
Cheers

There is no issue with one person taking 3 rifles into Zim on Emirates. I've done it twice and leave tomorrow with 3 again.

Every time I've done it, however, all three have been in one case. Not sure about more than one firearm case if the firearms are all in one passenger's name.

When applying for approval to transit through Dubai with firearms and ammunition, you can list more than one passenger. On my trips all the guns are in my name, but I have my sons carry ammo as well and list them on the transit approval request.

Someone suggested a Tuffpak. Good choice if you're taking bolts. Not a good choice for doubles - at least not if they're assembled. Resulted in a cracked stock for me when TSA slammed it to the floor. Doubles travel best in two pieces. A good "two-rifle" case like Boyt or Pelican where you cut out the foam to house the rifles can comfortably accommodate a bolt and 2 doubles and stay under 70 lbs.
