Can I take two 375s in my case on Delta through jburg to Zim? I've seen some discussion and read the airline regs but it is not clear. It seems like the most likely trouble spot would be transiting through RSA. Use enough gun... Shoot 'till it's dead, especially if it bites.

I took two .500 NE's to Zim in March but my route was via Dubai, not Jo'burg. No issues on the route I took. Mike

The airlines don't care. There shouldn't be a problem, but if there is, it will undoubtedly be at JNB, which is why some of us avoid it whenever possible. Mike ______________ DSC DRSS (again) SCI Life NRA Life Sables Life Mzuri IPHA "To be a Marine is enough."

If your flight departs promptly from Joberg with your guns transfered directly to the other airline, I doubt you'll have a problem in RSA but if you have to overnight in Joberg, I doubt they'll let you.

Two years ago I saw a hunter trying to overnight in Joburg on his way to Zim with two rifles of the same caliber and he was not allowed to take either. I think this is spelled out on the SAPS website. Karl Karl Evans

It's a ZA thing. If you must clear your guns in ZA, don't try. Only solution I've used, needs 2 people...

TrademarkTexan, You can do it. Christy with Gracy Travel specializes in doing the SAPS gun permit applications for clients and she says that two rifles of the same caliber are NOT a problem and that you can take ammo without a matching caliber rifle. You just need to jump through some simple hoops. You need a letter with your preapproved RSA gun permit stating that the second rifle is a back up and if you want to bring a couple of boxes of 375 ammo for your PH but you have a 300WM in your luggage you just need a 4457 showing you do own a 375. Of course the ammo weight needs to stay under the 5KG total allowed by the airline. Call Christy at Gracy 800-299-8558. I'm sure she can walk you through it in a couple of minutes. Mark MARK H.
