I've never been to Mozambique, but we are looking at a hunt there for next year.

I wanted to see if anyone had advice on the best airline and route to Mozambique.

Thanks for the help.

TwicePipes,

Ask the experts like Gracy Travel, Travel with Guns or Kathi Klimes. Arranging internationally travel with guns in my opinion is best left to those that organize that sort of thing a living.

Houston Atlanta JoBerg.

Overnight in JoBerg then to final destination. Mine was Beira. If you are going all the way up to Pemba or Lichinga you May have to overnight again in Maputo.

Maputo International Airport? If so, from IAH Turkish Airways or Qatar. Same price - Qatar.

Maputo is also the kidnapping capital of Mozambique, which is the kidnapping capital of Southern Africa. However, if you want the big buffalo that where you go. Just make sure you fly everywhere and not drive. And don't drive between Maputo and RSA.

+1 but i would personally avoid flying via Maputo, rather direct to Beira, Lichinga or Pemba.

Very good advice.

I am sure you can save some money by booking on line yourself, but I bet those savings would be worthless when a problem arises.

I went Lisbon- Maputo, Tap-United. spent 12 hour layover during the day going and during the night on return in hotel next to airport in Lisbon. Shower, nice lunch/ dinner. Ammo rifle all in one case both ways. Available days were limited then, but I think they have increased flights to and from USA sense.

They are very helpful when you wake up to find your flight is 12 hours delayed and you will be missing the single flight a day to Beira. (Which actually happened to me. One phone call later, I'm rebooked through Frankfurt, then to JNB with plenty of time to make my Beira flight. Took care of the last minute gun permits on Lufthansa and everything.)

A bit off topic but...
We drove wth our PHs from Jo-burg to Luabo, crossing into Zim at Beitbridge, into Moz at Mutare.
It took to days each way but what we saw was amazing.

In process of making arrangements for next year and my traveling partner(new) suggested he could save us some money be handling the booking. This is a very bright guy and it is hard to articulate how difficult it was to dissuade him from this and use an agent. Not using an agent is the best way to screw up a trip, IMO. As Mark said, there are great ones available.
