Is there anyone out there who can book my flights from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Windhoek, Namibia and return? Anyone know of anyone?

I would fly to Denver then catch the night flight to Frankfurt and get a day room in Frankfurt before transferring to Windhoek later that night.

You will probably have to clear customs in the US.

I will assume that you are flying with guns. If no guns just use any travel agent in edmonton. If it was me and I was just flying to windhoek and not doing a bunch of connections in africa this is what I would do- make sure that your travel agent gets confirmation from the airline that they acknowledge you will be traveling with firearms, bring copies of this with you. Do your own research on the airlines website and make sure everything is packaged as per the airlines instructions- Bring copies of this printed from the website as well. The counter agents and their supervisors often have no clue as to what their own rules are. Try and avoid any and all connections, the less connections you have the less chance for problems of any sort- lost baggage, ignorant customs agents, TSA agents that want to see your guns etc...

I don't know when you have to go, but one possibilityis to use one of the agents that specialize in african travel- (in the past I have used Kathy@Wildtravel.net and she was great). Gracy travel in texas is highly recommended as well. If you have complicated itinery's (Multiple african internal flights) this is probably the route I would take. There are 2 problems with doing this.

#1 is that these agents cannot book a flight that doesn't originate in the united states so that means you would have to book your own flight, or drive to an airport in the states(thats the route we took)

#2 Whether you drive or fly you will need to get a form 6N1A from the ATF to import a gun to the USA. Here is a link that describes in detail how to do this http://www.losttarget.com/form6.html- It takes atleast 6 to 8 weeks (sometimes longer to get this I am told). You will have to buy a hunting license of some sort if you don't do any hunting in the USA that you already have a license for michigan has a
$15 game preserve license that you can buy and print online to get you started right away. You can find it here http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/welcome.asp.
This is really the only legal way to import a gun into the states that is available for us canadians , You are not being sneaky by buying the michigan license and hunting in namibia- be upfront about this with anyone that asks- when asked I was given this advice by customs agents at the border, the know the rules are silly but it is their job to enforce them. Be polite, (you are a guest in their country) do what they suggest and you won't have any problems. If you check with the ATF they will give you the same advice. Print multiple copies and bring tham with you.

It really isn't all that difficult to do it this way and if you have some unforseen problems while you are in africa, having Kathy or Gracy's help will be invaluable and well worth the little bit of trouble it is to get a form 6N1A.
Good luck Smiler
