I'm trying to plan a hunt in Tanzania for 2025, but I getting sticker shock at the business class airfare costs.

I'm getting business class quotes at $13,000 to $15,000. I find that crazy.

I travel a lot internationally for work. So I'm constantly booking airline tickets. Some routes are always expensive. I know business class for Houston to Brazil is normally over $12,000, even when booking two or three months out.

What I don't understand on the airfare to Dar is, when I go on the airline websites, I'm seeing business class tickets between $7,000 and $9,000.

However travel agents are sending me flights with slightly different timelines that are $13,000 or higher.

What is the normal cost for business class from Houston or Dallas to Dar es Salaam?

Thanks!!!

Go Duke!!

I booked a Qatar B class from IAH to JRO. The ticket cost was just a little over 7k. About two days later, that ticket was $4800. Cancelled the 7k ticket and rebooked the $4800 ticket. The I have the route tracked in Google flights. My flight price changes almost daily from about 7k to 12K and any where in between. I am in Business light which does not have lounge access. I have lounge access with my AMEX card so the business light works for me. I used Nicole at Gracy Travel.

I fly a lot . Often a hell of a lot. I have learned a few interesting things over the years .

The exact dates may make a massive difference. Let me give you an example of two. We were going to Spain to bird hunt with friends . Changing the departure date by a single day saved approximately $5,000 per ticket .

In August, we were somewhat stranded in Iceland trying to get to Greenland . I got tired of waiting. I booked flights home . They were the exact same flights just 6 days earlier . We got refunded over $6,000 per ticket .

Makes no sense to me . I have always said that anyone who can figure out airline ticket pricing is smarter than me .

I used to travel a lot when I was working. I have been retired a while now and I travel less.

I look at flights schedules, and depending on price, it makes a difference on which days want to travel, plus check departure times during the day for your travel.

Also, If you take the time to check on your departure date in advance. You will find that you will be quoted different pricing for your travel, based on the day that you check. You will find that Monday and Tuesday are different in cost as well as the rest of the days of the week. I have booked first class for the same quoted price of coach. You just need to watch and be ready to purchase when you find the fare pricing that you like.

I now look at traveling up to 2 days in advance, of when I need to arrive, as the difference in airline tickets cost more than covers the hotel and meals for going early.

Also, look at departure times as this will also drive ticket costs.

A word of warning here, if you fly Qatar with guns make sure your flight from Doha to Dar is booked through on Qatar. Last August I flew Oman Air from Doha to Dar and thanks to Patrick my gun PPW was in their system as well. The return flight out of Dar was on Qatar as usual.
