Hi all

We'll be off to Zim for our honeymoon end-July, with a few days prior in Johannesburg and Harare.

Question: its our honeymoon, does anyone know of any nice stores to take my lovely wife to, for lazy shopping? safari essentials prior to the 14 days in the bush?

Meeting up with Patrick Mavros while there, so the CC might feel the hurt too, but we only do this once, right?

Thanks for any and all suggestions, much appreciated!

Plenty of places to while away time shopping in Johannesburg, Orvar. Just keep alert to pickpockets/mugging and do not stray into the central city without guides/escorts.

Depends to a degree on where your hotel is, but the huge mall at the Sandton Centre (very good hotel and restaurants there, too), has got some hight end safari gear and safari book shops (Rowland Wards e.g.).

For a smaller and less frenetic mall, go somewhat south of Sandton to Rosebank and wander around the Rosebank Mall that has some used bookshops and some interesting camp and safari gear shops.

The iconic gunshop in Joburg is Die Kruitvat (The Powderkeg) of the late Lucas Potgeiter. It's off in one of the western suburbs, but not an impossible drive once you get on the ring road around the city.

Trust you've been on Patrick Mavros' website to get an idea of just how big a hit your credit card might take!

Regards, Tim

Tim: thanks for those recommendations, will probably get out to the lesser traveled ones.

Unfortunately, my wife is friends with Patrick and the whole family--actually an amazing and friendly family... but it does keep me bustin' it @ the office for her "habit" to be fedSmiler

Will: thanks, will check it out!

Cheers all

One of the experiences I would definitely take my wife back to is to spend the night about 1 1/2 hours out of Joberg at a 4/5 start resort called Misty Hills. They have a dining experience at their signature restaurant called "Carnivores". Definitely one of the highlights of our first trip. Nice place to stay, WONDERFUL place to eat.

My wife and I have a half day to kill in Harare any thoughts? Some one has mentioned that they bought a nice buffalo hide rifle case in a shop in Harare for a reasonable price.
