Afton House/Louis' condition
I talked to Annelise yesterday and Louis' battle with cancer has left him somewhat beat up lately. I'm sure he would appreciate your prayers. E-mail is aftongh@netactive.co.za

If you are not familiar, Louis (Louie) and Annelise own Afton Guest House in Johannesburg and are hosts for lots of folks coming or going on safari. Louis was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

I stayed at the Afton Guesthouse for a night in the first part of March and it did seem to me that Louie was a bit down on spirit. The entire neighborhood surrounding Afton had not had water for the past 3 days owing to a disrepair in the water system by the city water crew. He apologized to me profusely for the inconvenience and I did not mind it as long as there was a swimming pool to jump into. It didn't occur to me that he was/is fighting the same cancer battle that I am. Odd that prostate cancer was a major topic of conversation that night at the braai with an orthopedic surgeon from Nigeria, the only house guest, other than my small group.

Louie and Annelise are ably assisted by their children and their spouses and have an efficient staff who made our transit and stay a pleasant one. For hunters transiting through Jo'burg, I can think of no better place to stay and no better people than Louie and his staff to make your stay a pleasant one.

My prayers go out to Louie and his family.

I was wondering as well, as the last report that I had (last fall) was that he was doing poorly.
