I have spent months researching the hunting end of my PG Safari. I have done some searches here regarding the "tourist sites" for the post hunt several days. I do want to get as much out of the trip as possible. Do you guys do this planning yourself? I have very much enjoyed doing the Safari portion of planning. I am going to contact one of the travel agents discussed on here for the airline arrangements. Is this best taken up with my PH, the travel agent or myself? I have narrowed my Safari choices down to 2 Namibia outfitters and one South Africa outfitters. So once I book (literally in next week or so) I need to be ready with some airline plans and travel plans.

If you hunting Namibia plan on a Self drive tour of Etosha park for two or three days. Car rentals with all taxes and full insurance should be around $150 a day. Staying in the park will cost $100 + more than staying out side the park. Saltwater fishing for sharks out of Swakopmund is a lot of fun and cheap! If to hunt South Africa you must tour Kruger it's a great park. Fly as close to the park ( Kruger -Mpumalanga International Airport ) rent a car and drive into the park. Stay in the park it's much safer and more enjoyable! You must make reservations very early in all parks !! Your guide should tell you were to stay and what car rentals to use. Robert Johnson

No matter which country you hunt, you'll find a huge variety of options for local photo safari etc and to make the most of it at the best price, you really need to consult someone who knows the scene well. If you go to a travel agent etc in your home country, you're almost guaranteed to get misled, simply because they don't know the areas well enough. The Kruger Park as someone else said, is a very good venue, but camps vary hugely in price, facilities and quality so local knowledge is invaluable there as well. Try contacting my buddy John Ilsley at john@detra.co.za and tell him the area you'll be going to and ask for his suggestions. John knows Africa and it's tourism like the back of his hand and it won't cost you a cent more than if you'd booked direct etc. Hope that helps.

Here's a novice question from an African first timer. I'm going to Namibia in August and plan to do some touring around after the hunt, is there any place I can leave my gun and not have to worry about it being stolen?

A number of hotels will allow you to do that, and they have safe for that purpose. I am staying one night in Windhoek after my hunt at Casa Piccolo, and the owner loves catering to hunters. She is going to store my rifle for about 1 week, and then I'll pick it up when I come back through Windhoek to stay for my final night. Claudia is her name - you can find her guesthouse and a number of others at Cardboard Box travel on the internet - I went through them for all my bookings. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt
