Good morning AR,

Three 4th year ned students are doing their final rotation near Kilimanjaro in April.

Does anyone have any non high dollar sightseeing suggestions for the week extra time they have.

The Kilimanjaro hiking thing is not recommended due to it be the rainy season.

Thanks
Keith

More than a few places that do game drives in the area, but all of my contacts are higher end money wise.

Depends on how much hand holding they need, but if they have a car, there are probably some options in Tarangire NP that can be reasonable. Also the photo thing in Kenya is very developed.

The places I stayed in Arusha could smell that we had money, and prices were high, but the PHs knew where to stay for less.

Tons of things to do, depending on how adventurous the are.

The springs in Moshi would be a fun one: https://www.tripadvisor.com/At...imanjaro_Region.html

You can find decent lower priced photo safaris in Serengeti, just takes a bit of searching, but they can arrange locally once they arrive- they will probably get a better price that way.

For an adventure they can do a climb of Ol Doinyo Lengai. Pretty incredible spot, not frequented by tourists, but worth seeing.

If they are up for a longer drive they can go to Pangani on the coast.

Thanks,

I will research these places a bit. My kid has been to Africa twice so she has bit of experience. They have a week and are leaving from Zanzibar.

Try contacting "The Outpost Lodge" in Arusha - comfortable, clean, good food and low-cost. Most PHs use the place. Info on a variety of tours can be had from them as well. Owned by Steve & Cathy Atwell - Steve is no stranger to some.

Ngorongoro is an option and a chance to see a rhino and some great buffalo. Don't forget Arusha Nat'l Park. Not much dangerous game left other than buffalo, but the scenery is beautiful, Meru is usually shrouded by clouds in the morning that time of year and the monkeys will keep you entertained. I wouldn't miss the cultural center in Arusha either. Nice antiques and art, even if you are just looking. Don't know if the New Arusha Hotel has finished its remodel, but if it has, that is a great place to stay. Very nostalgic and nice garden, as well as conveniently located in downtown Arusha.

We had an exceptional guide on part of our tour last November/December. His name is Firoz he works for Ranger Safaris which is out of Arusha. As well as wildlife he is a very experienced birder. I wouldn't do a wildlife tour without a guide. They get info on when and where from a network and we had some guides that could spot a white spot from a cheetahs belly laying in the grass at 300 yds while they were driving. Also the National Parks have different rules. Some you have to stay on the two track, others you don't etc.
Just my inexperienced two cents

Check out Destination 3 Degrees. www.destination3degrees.com I will ensure the med students get a great room rate and will help them find some inexpensive tours. Easy run to Lake Manyara. Spend time in Arusha National Park. Hike around Mt. Meru (rainy season issue). Spend one day driving and touring Ngorongoro. Contact me at 509-840-0551 for more info. I will also be at SCI and would be glad to visit
