Hi all,

leaving shortly from Atlanta to J-Berg on Delta. Traveling with one gun and two boxes of ammo. Traveling with one gun and two boxes of ammo. Plan on leaving remaining ammo with PH, not brining it home. Packing ammo in checked luggage (not gun case).

Question, do I need a separate locked ammo container?

From what I can tell it seems the US & Delta just want it in factory boxes or the like) and no lockable container other than the suit case, is that correct?

You should be good then. But, I always fly with my ammo in a lightweight, lockable box, with the ammo inside the unlocked box. (I have two locks in the box just in case I need to lock it for any reason). Sometimes I use the box to lock other things in it in my checked bag (also locked) during the hunt while I, the gun, and the ammo are out hunting. I also have bag tags on the ammo box. Big Grin

Technically no but I would just in case you get "that" check in agent! A pistol case works great.

Jsince,

These days I just routinely put my ammo in ammo boxes packed in a Pelican Case, locked with TSA locks and put it in my duffel. That way your covered for about any eventuality.

I do the same as Mark does. You might get one of the TSA inspectors that determines that the ammo is not properly packed and remove it.

What Mark said, only I don't lock it, but leave the two locks unlocked inside. I had the TSA idiots cut off my TSA locks on the Pelican ammo box on one trip. Go figure. So, that's why they're just placed inside for any contingency.

If you are not flying another other airline, you should be okay.

I have always kept my ammo in the locked gun case with the rifle for most flights. Less hassle that way.

I think it was South African Airlink (I flew from Jo'burg to Bulawayo) that requires a separate lockable case for ammo (which I included in a larger checked baggage).

You can put ammo in your check in suitcase. must be in factory or factory type boxes with seperators in them..That is all that's required by their regs...the rest is inventions others suggest, that may be reviewed at some point and some nut will say "Hey that's a good idea" We all need to be careful about suggestions and abide the rules, good or bad..we create bad law in the court room and the airlines.
