I suggest you pick up a few packs of North Fork 450 GR solids before you come too. Some hornady cases wont be a bad idea either.

If you cant get the North Forks I suggest we arrange some GS customs for you when you get here.

If you need North Forks when you get here just PM me. You too Ian if you are looking for North Forks.

Best of luck. South Africans are friendly and receive people who aren't locals in a great fashion. You will be made to feel at home in short order.

Guns and ammo have very little to do with a PH apprenticeship?

You are dreaming mate. After the first two years you should be fluent in procurement, plumbing, stocks, catering, mechanics, first aid, licensing, law, baiting, animal behaviour, road building, anti poaching etc etc?

Third year you might get to ride on the back of your car.

I beg to differ a little Andrew.
This is not a pimple faced 18 year old skivvy asking for hand outs, he is a self made man with a work history and more importantly a work ethic and drive to succeed.

All of what you mentioned will come into play, and he will learn as he goes along. But I dare say that anyone relegating him to the role of camp manager and general gofer for 3 years will very soon loose his interest and more importantly dedication.
I know a few youngsters in Mozam now who hunted there from day 1 and have made a great career of it in the process.

Anyway, that is just my opinion.

You have been in touch with Ian of the Box H I understand. I will be with him in June for a couple of cape buff and will have an outstanding .600 double by John Wilkes--an old timer from 1914. If you're in the area, please stop by.

Your Cz550 will serve you well. Good luck and safe travels.

Thank you for the well wishes everyone so far!
I have updated a few more things on the website so please be sure to check it out!

www.JonnyAfrica.com

I have tons of video and pictures ready for upload but I can only do it from midnight to 6am. As I sit now it is 1am and I have a early start going into town to buy supplies for the upcoming clients this Sunday, so I am very very tired and it is well past my bedtime.

PS: Saw some nice Nyala today, all cows except one VERY young bull with extremely small horns. I'll put those pics up soon-ish I hope.

Cheers!

Cal, Thank you so much for the invite. The only problem I am worried about is not being able to return to the farm here in Vryheid. I need more info on how I can catch a ride back here. Otherwise I would love to join you guys on a buff hunt and see how it goes. I cannot afford to shoot one as of now but would still love to gain from the experience and just be there with you. I have already mentioned it to my immediate PH/boss and he made it sound like it is no problem at all. I just need to solidify transportation back here.

I spoke with Ian Blakeway on the phone recently and he has been very kind and helpful, which I can thank him to no extent!

Please send me more details on the hunt to my email at TheJonny@JonnyAfrica.com
I will do my best to be there if it is all affordable and I can arrange for a ride home somehow.

Sincerely,

-Jonathan

This journey is for you then Scott. You and anyone else like you!
I have so much I wish to upload to my site but it will take some time. I barely have time to respond to a few emails and things here on AR as of now. But I do it all in the times that I should be sleeping so it is hard.

Either way, don't stop hunting!

Cheers!

If you can arrange an extra week off I am going straight into a Leopard hunt from Cals hunt. You welcome to join.
Otherwise I am sure we could get you a bus ride home from Joburg when I drop Cal at the airport.

Cheers
Ian

I spoke with my boss. It sounds like the buff hunt will be a possibility. And they made it sound like they wanted to help me work it out. However, they are very busy so we'll have to see if they forget about it or remember.

Unfortunately I doubt I will be able to stay that long for the leopard hunt. I do appreciate the offer greatly though! It's just they mentioned that mid June we will be getting very busy with clients. So 3 days off is about all I can muster if anything. As long as i can catch a bus back to Vryheid I am golden. They can pick me up from there.

I'm off to the other end of the farm now for a couple beers and a brai! Smiler

Cheers!

Its going to be a great hunt.

Lets check the schedules tomorrow and see what we can do.
If anyone reading this is coming into JHB on their way to KZN on the 13th June then let us know, perhaps you can give Jonny a lift down.

Cheers
Ian

Yes, although this is a long shot, it would be much appreciated if this was the case with anyone.

Ian, just so you know I have been talking to my bosses about this trip and it sounds like we can work it out. I am hoping to just book a Greyhound back down to Vryheid from out hunt. Possibly you can give your opinion on this idea and maybe some insight/pointers?

I will try to SMS your phone soon.

I am looking forward to the Buff hunt.

Cheers!
