Anyone flown recently to Namibia w/ a TufPak? The AirNamibia site says 22# for a rifle case & 30# for a golf bag (why golfers get a break is beyond me). I'm betting my TufPak wieghs abit more than 22# w/ two rifles & abit of stuff. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Air Namibia gives you a total of 66 pounds when you have a rifle with you. That means, with two checked bags (one Tuffpak, one other bag) your TOTAL weight should be 66 pounds or less adding the weight of both together. Not an issue, from what I see, coming over (you can have 100 pounds) but they can nail you on the return trip. I'm at 48 pounds and 45 pounds respectiveley with my bag and Tuffpak flying over, but after I lose a bunch of gifts, jerky, candy, toys, 60 rounds of ammo, a safebox, etc. I should be ell under 66 pounds, even with souvenirs. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt

International air tariff treaties give you the "normal" allowance of two checked bags, not to exceed 50 pounds each (about 22 kg each), if your entire ticket is purchased in the U.S. Our party of three in 2007 flew Delta-Air Namibia through Frankfurt. We were careful to assure that each of our total of three checked bags and two double gun cases weighed less than 50 lbs each. On the return, we filled a spare soft-sided bag with souvenirs, dirty clothes, etc. and checked it, along with our other five bags, for a total of two "49-lb" bags each. Our baggage was cheerfully accepted going both ways without surcharge. Of course, this was perhaps due lightening the weight of one bag somewhere in the Windhoek airport by one video camera by helpful baggage handlers (be sure to pack any valuables either in your carry-on or in your locked gun case.) So long as the domestic U.S. airlines are allowing two free checked bags of 50-lbs for overseas travel, that will be your allowance on all legs of your journey (on tickets purchased as single trip and purchased in the U.S.) With the news of all of the new baggage charges, this won't last for long.

Thanks guys, that is what I was hoping. Of course I will carry on my camera & baggage insurance for the rifles is a must. It's Murphy's Law, if I insure it, I'll never lose it. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Wonder if my rifles will fit in a golf bag?

When I flew Luftansa / Air Namibia last year they never weighed my Tuff-Pak. They didn't weigh it on any leg of the flight. They just checked it through without any question. Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

Actually, a high-quality golf hard case seems an excellent way to transport guns. Of course, each gun needs to be housed in its own individual heavily-padded case, but I'll assure you, far fewer people are interested in stealing golf clubs than stealing guns.
