In July, I will be hunting in Botswana, and then plan to visit friends (not hunting) in South Africa a couple of days. Does anyone know how I can store my rifle since I will not have an outfitter letter so I can get a temporary import permit?

I had Air 2000 store my guns for me in 2005 while my wife and I toured around RSA after a hunt in Namibia. This worked out very well for us.

Even if you have storage arranged, you will still have to get the permit.

6-24-07 Steve Turner at Gracy Travel tells me there is no requirement of an outfitter letter if only transiting and not hunting in SA.
