jdsExcellent detail in your art. But I could not carry one either . . . they look TOO good and I would be in constant "flinch" mode every time I saw it out of the corner of my eye.

L. David KeithThank you all again for the kind words. True, some lithic material such as Obsidian can be fragile but if handled properly, will last until multiple resharpenings render it exhausted. However, as suspected, these are collector pieces. Carving the snake is the most time consuming, taking many work sessions over several weeks to complete. Once the final paint/stain is added, glass eyes are inserted with epoxy and touched up. Then the blade (various materials can be used: flint, agate, obsidian or jasper) is knapped and hafted. The top rattler has heat treated jasper (tough as nails even after 3 sessions in the kiln) the other two have obsidian blades (silver sheen variety). Costs run from $450 - $650 depending upon the material and viper.
