We'll make money off this even though it hurts our feelings. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. He looks like you owe him money." - Robert Ruark, Horn of the Hunter, 1953 NRA Life, SAF Life, CRPA Life, DRSS lite

. Following on from Franks comment - Not a zoo but a museum - the Natural History Museum in London has two solid ivory West African style lions studded with brass nail pins on exhibit in the W Africa art section 'on loan' from no other than the Queen (RIP). Makes me smile every time I see them especially with Harry and William running around as WWF ambassadors and anti ivory trade messengers! I imagine that the Royal Household is not even aware that the lions are still there let alone on exhibit as loans from the Queen! . "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

"The painting, The Last Cartridge, was completed by William Burn Murdoch, of Edinburgh, in 1913 and depicts the artist aiming his rifle at a polar bear." I'm not sure if the artist has just shot the bear or is only thinking about shooting it, but he is certainly not aiming at it! Ah, well. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I looked at the results on that link Kathy provided. Most of the stuff was going for around their estimates and was in the 100-300 pound range. The bear hunter painting went for essentially twice its estimate (excluding fees) and was by a order of magnitude the highest price paid of the ones I saw. I didn't see the "banksy" ones that were supposed to be the ones driving this one down, though.
