Limited Edition Knives: Poisonous Snakes of North America

No. 1, Series 1, extreme limited edition: "Deadly at both ends" by Tumak's Cave Works. Blade, eys, hafting & final overall finish: Tumak. Wood selection (Arkansas Poplar), shaping, carving, detailing, staining and finish: Unk.
This is a one of a kind custom knife featuring the work of two paleo artists: Unk and Tumak. Together they have launched a joint project to make a series of very limited edition knives featuring hand carved snake handles and knapped blades. Producing these one of a kind knives takes a lot of time and effort, so production is gradual. Interested parties my contact LDK for more details and cost involved to become the owner of one or more of these truly unique knives.
Due to my friend who carves losing his sight, these are no longer available.

The handle is the most time consuming. My good friend in Arkansas does the handles. He selects just the right wood for each project, then shapes, carves and stains. The blade material was very tough and it took multiple knapping sessions to flake. It had to be heat treated before it would take any flaking.

Storms: I took a number of sessions working on the blade as the jasper was very hard and although it went through several heat treatments, it never reduced its lithic hardness. I estimate over time 3.5 hours of knapping (I would only work a short session of flakes and stop due to hand fatigue); 60 hours of heating (3 sessions); setting the eyes 1 hour; hafting 1.5 hours; total time on my part: 66 hours. As for the carving and staining, I'll have to ask if he kept a record. He worked on it over a period of months. Like myself, a little at a time.

The most poisonous snakes we have in the US are the politicians!! They are too ugly to reproduce in any manner and their leader is a porch monkey!
