ghostbird2014 NWTF Decorative Turkey Calls
I thought I would share a few photos of my decorative turkey call entries in the 2014 Grand National Turkey Call Making Competition held by the National Wild Turkey Federation in Nashville Feb 13-16.
Andy Cobb
This photo is of all five of my entries; a matched set of calls, two box calls, a scratchbox call, and a trough call.
Second Place: Category 26 - Matched Set ...also received the Third Best of Class
Matched set of calls made from spalted Myrtle, figured Bubinga, & Holly. Set consists of a Hollowbody box call, a trough call with a slate surface and a Purpleheart peg, a handled scratchbox, and a cane yelper. Calls are displayed in a hand crafted Black Walnut display case.
First Place: Category 1 - Box call, glued box & lid
Handled Hollowbody box call made from Cocobolo, mineral stained Poplar, & Ebony with a figured Bubinga lid.
First Place: Category 20, Scratch Box
Scratch Box call made from Limba, Mahogany, and Kingwood, with Satinwood & Ebony spacers. The matching "Jet Slate" style striker is tethered with leather bolo cord and antler beads & fobs. The call features a hand painted gobbler bust and is diplayed on a red cedar driftwood stump mounted on a persimmon base.
Fifth Place: Category 4 - Box call, carved not painted
Carved Red Cedar box call with a carved Cherry lid that features a ball & claw handle.

twillibeautiful work. Wish I had the talent. Do you sell any of your calls ?

ghostbirdThanks.
I do sell a few calls, however I have a long waiting list with about a two year delivery. I wish I could have more time in my shop, but at this time it is not happening. My "real job" is very demanding and working 60-70 hours a week does not leave much shop time. Of course much of my time off, when I can get it, is used for hunting.

safari-lawyerEvery year I am impressed anew when Andy rolls out these NWTF competition entries. Just remarkable. Quite a talent.
My Andy Cobb box call is one of my favorite things.
Keep it up Andy.

L. David KeithBeautiful works of art as always Andy. Missed the live auction this year, it was very busy all 3 days. I did see some great new hunting products however, and chatted with the Beretta guys. Happy to know they're building a new factory near my home

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
