I've been intimately involved with guns and gunsmiths almost all my life absolutely since teen age. It is my belief that the finest practitioners of the art at this time are American. Not to diminsh the Europeans just to state my beliefs. We are priveledged on this forum to see the results of the work of many of those with quite a few of the regular members being among that group. As to WHO is the finest gunsmith in the US ,I would not be so bold as say who that is as I really don't know. I certainly know that Jerry Fisher would be without any doubt somewhere in the top of the list. SCI Life Member NRA Patron Life Member DRSS

Please share some photos. I'm sure that I am not the only one who would love to see them. Jason "You're not hard-core, unless you live hard-core." _______________________ Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt. Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure. -Jason Brown

London Hunter. Jerry is still alive and living in BigFork Montana. As of two years ago, he was still building rifles. I strongly suggest that while you have the chance your immediately send Jerry a nice letter along with some photos of the rifle and ask him is there is anything in his records or memory of that he provide give you. As with A fine London made rifle, such provenance will add value to your gun. Also, I think it would be a treat for you to hear from such an historic US Stockmaker such as Mr Fisher. Also ,buy a copy of "Checkering and Carving of Gunstocks" by Monte Kennedy. It shows several photos of Jerry's work along with a very YOUNG Mr Fisher at the time of its publishing-(the early 1950s)

I had the privilege of visiting Jerry Fisher and having supper with him and his wonderful wife in his home on my birthday, in December 1976. He most graciously showed me his work in progress and how he does it. Even then, 35 years ago, he was considered one of the top, maybe THE VERY TOP, stockmakers in the world. I think of him often, and only wish I had ever had just one rifle stocked and fitted out by him. Not only that and even more important, he is a wonderful person....a true gentleman in every sense of the word (and 100% honest). My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
