Looks nice Rich. The '36 Mexican style cocking piece is a nice extra touch. The curve of that hogs back butt is subtle enough to work too. Well done. Hope it isn't loaded. Hah! CB Life itself is a gift. Live it up if you can.

Anderson did the Zastava. Shortened Argy Mauser in 250 Savage. This one is supposedly Blackburn. Stock is by Gary Goudy.

There is NO curve. It's an optical illusion.

Rich I'm not sure what your light source is.

4ft flour. I used the D750 to measure the light off of a white card.

Love that straight back grip. Fantastic photography. Gifted in the feat and the photo, both. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

That short '98 in 250-3000 is just cute. Built to handle fast like a shotgun. Lots of work that you don't see immediately. Yeah, I want it. JC

Two very nice rifles. However, I am going to assume that you actually wanted comments on the photography? The background works very well. The lighting is reasonable. There are a couple of blown highlights but in context it doesn't bother me. The lens used does have some distortion (the reason for the butt appearing curved). Not sure what lens you are using and whether you have the room needed, but a good macro lens should have much less distortion. They are typically available in two focal lengths from most manufacturers, 55/60mm and 105mm. It can also be corrected in post processing, but that will lead to some small reduction in quality. There are free programs available but I don't have any experience with them. Gimp gets good reviews.

You might try a softer and darker background fabric that doesn't show so many distracting shadows. You also might try a couple of large white cards to bounce some broad fill lighting, and some smaller white cards for some accent fill lighting. KJK

I think we should be asking gunmaker about photography, doesn't get much better.

Top pic was done with a 35 f2.8 the others with a 35-70 2.8 probably set on 35mm. I do have a 60mm 2.8 mac that I will try next. There is very minimal setup to take these since it is my workbench. I'm color lazy so color correct is tough for me.

Do you know roughly when the Goudy was stocked? Thanks, John

No. I met him in Vegas (2012?) at the Riviera (that one years when the engravers and a few Smiths were there for the January show) he said he remembers doing the stock. Think I met Jim Kobe also :-)

Do you hunt with that rifle. Appears little used.

Took the 250S out, the checkering in the skeleton buttplate was already "compromised" :-) The 7mm br was going to be a range gun until the mini-mau craze.

A diffuser or 2 would help with the hard shadow and blown out highlights. I use a pair of home made 2'x5' 1x2 frames with a fabric shower curtain. Clamp lights behind them or for my recent photo, I used 4' shop lights converted to LED. I plugged in the Kelvin color # from the bulb and the pics I posted are jpgs straight from the camera. I also have the HUGE raw files I can post process for the few I'll submit for publication. Having 2 light/diffuser frames allows the strip of light from 2 different angles providing soft highlighting that gives the picture more of a 3 dimensional look. Rifle is pointed at the ground and rotated and lights moved around to get different looks. This guy's video is basically how I set up my lighting. However it takes a lot of space to store all of it and long shutter speeds requiring very stable tripod and remote shutter. I also shot a little underexposed for a more dramatic look. My backdrop is a $5 W-mart sheet with the large hem opened up on the ends with a piece of conduit shoved through it. It's about 5' behind the rifle so it's not in focus and there are no shadows on it.

thanks. I tried many things on a smaller scale. I've taken a lot of knife and watch picture using a diffuser, reflectors. Steriite tub, tracing paper. construction paper reflector. All on a small scale. These two were with a dome. with a sterilite tub.

Very cool. Diffusers and reflectors seem to be essential. Thanks for posting this. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Many years ago there was a video that ACGG produced featuring Mustafa Bilal. He did a great job of explaining a simple setup and it's one that I continue to use to this day with slightly different equipment.
