Yes, a very fine rifle.
I think I prefer a nice rising bite to a Holland, Purdey or a Westley droplock.
This one for sale?

Trax

When you post these things, how about putting IN THE ORIGINAL POST the price up they are listed at and where they are listed - ie a Link like you have just done.

I like the 470 Rigby they have right now, but what is with the regulating wedge still sticking out at the muzzle end?!

This is surely a very nice pre-1914 Rigby. This particular rifle was formerly the property of Kenya ivory hunter and PH Alan Black, if I remember correctly, so I'm pretty sure it would have a boatload of stories to tell if it could talk.

A friend of mine owns the twin to this rifle (just a few numbers apart, as a matter of fact) which was formerly the property of Russell Aitken. I've fired it a bunch of times and it is surely one of the nicest rifles I've ever had the privelege of handling. It's just about in 100% condition and there's still a shipping line luggage tag with a few words of endearment in Russ's handwriting in the rifle's oak and leather case about his Rigby. He ended the love note with "The most deadly rifle I've ever owned." I'll believe him!

There's just something about a rising-bite Rigby in .470 that shouts "Charge Me!" like no other rifle on earth, I reckon.

On second thought, it could have been a nicer one: the screws on the case are not timed... the horror!

I was told the wedge was left to protect the muzzle crowns from from being accidentally damaged.

Yes, I have as well. but the wedge doesn't really stick out far enough to really protect all of the muzzle.

Wonder what $$ it sold for what a classic double rifle would love to be the proud owner of it
