Well fellas, I procured two Daly left hand mini Mauser actions and have decided on the chamberings. I picked up a nice stock from Chris at Walnut Grove for the 17 Remington. It's going to be a 24" barrel and the stock is nice fiddle back the whole length of the stock. The other action is going to be barreled to 6mmx222. I will be using a 1/12 twist barrel and shooting bullets up to 87 grains. I haven't decided yet which way to go with the stock for it. I am seriously considering going with a 20 or 21 inch barrel and a mannlicher stock. I remember being enthralled with John Wooters' 25/222 Copperhead many ears ago and see this rifle performing a similar function. I opted for the 6mmx222 over the 6x45 because it fits the action better, I have lots of 222 brass and it has a longer neck to better handle cast bullets. If someday I feel the need for more power I can always have the bolt face opened and the chambered reamed to one of the Grendel, AR, or SPC 6mm wildcats. This rifle will see it's most use as a fur calling rifle, most likely with 80 grain Hornady FMJ's (I have 500 on the way) in addition to some occasional varmint sniping. I opted for the 6mm over the 25 caliber because of the availability of fmj bullets as well as a bit higher bc for the same bullet weights. I chose the 6mm over the 222 because I'll be trying to call the occasional wolf. What are your thoughts. Go with the longer 24 inch barrel and a standard stock like the 17, or go with a trim little mannlicher stocked 20 or 21 inch. Thanks in advance guys. Mart "...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." Apart from your signature line, which is I have a Full-stock CZ 527 in .223 and it's soo cute. Dayum, I sound like my daughter. Seriously I like your ideas except you should stop looking in the mirror -- Promise me, when I die, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told I her I paid for them.

I'm 63 and would call it cute. Last I heard the grandkids were on "sweet" but I'm sure there is a new word of the month. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I had hopes to find a three position safety for the Dalys but it seems no one makes one any more. I have tried all the likely people; LaPour, Gentry, Dakota, NECG. It looks like I'll stick with the original safeties. Mart "...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind.
