Don't know exactly why, but I like the longish ramp on that early Mauser. I'll look for a screw on in that style with a ivory bead, naked without the hood. Somewhere, I've got a little box chuck full of sight hoods from MS and Pre-Garcia Sako rifles.

I had that same gun. It kicked like a mule! Mt CZ 550 and later my Blaser were much more comfortable to shoot.

+1 on a full stocked gun needing sights. IMHO They are little mountain guns designed for rough terrain and irons just look "right".

I've owned the Ruger version for several years.

It's interesting that as we grow older and less able to see iron sights we find that we want them on all of our rifles.

While I do like the schnabel, these two have the best lines, the top one I think has the better looking iron sites. I've always liked the Rugers, saw a killer deal on one in 6.5x55 once, but sadly deals always happen when I have no money.

the handguard I definitely disagree with being in any way good looking. gag me with a pitch fork.

I wonder how one would look with a 1/4 rib, or maybe 1/5 rib to stay in scale with the usually shorter barrels.

That is surely a nice one! The only quibbles I have are the presence of the swivel stud islands. If pressed, I'd also prefer a double-schnable treatment instead of that pesky island.

The belly line and grip angle are just great!

Those rifles are fabulous. The full stocks that I have are plain however still nice to own. None that I have are super handy.

The one that feels best is a Brno 22f however the set trigger is hard to set.

Here are some that were at the Autumn Gun Works in CT.

I bought the one on the right. Its a MS in .358W.

I like the MS that Red posted a pix of, or a longer ramp works for me.

To my eye, I like the slight curve on the bottom of the stock better than the little schnable half way down. I like a nose cap, and a ramp front. I think the original MS is the best example pictured above. DW

I agree that mannlicher stocked rifles look unfinished without open sights, even if the sights are superfluous. I put together a couple of Ruger 77 RSI parts guns, a 257 Roberts and a 7x57, and installed the Ruger front sights for "looks only". I bought the rear sights, but have never installed them. I have 1 mannlicher stocked rifle, a rebarreled Interarms Mark X in 260, that has remained a slick barrel. It does look a little odd, but there isn't anything to catch on when still-hunting the thick stuff.

I usually like iron sights on all my rifles. However, a couple of years ago I rebarreled an Interarms Mark X Mannlicher stocked .243 to a .240 H&H Apex. I intentionally did not put the iron sights back on because I intended to use it solely for varmit hunting. I think this set-up looks beautiful without the irons. I'll try to post some pics. Mike

I'm not sure that a mannlicher stock would look good on a M700 but I'd have to see it myself. I do agree that they really look better on a M98 or MS action. Still, to each his own.
