I have a NOS L461 and just picked up a new McMillan Edge Sako Hunter for $250. I want to build an 8 twist .223 Rem on it. What length and contour barrel would balance this out nicely? I don't like real heavy or real long barrels. Was thinking around a 20" #2 or maybe a Sako sporter profile in 20 or 21". Would a Sako Varmint profile at 20" bee too muzzle heavy? Thanks for the input

I've got two L461's, one .222 with a heavy BR barrel and a .222 Mag with the Varmint contour. The first is a bag/bench gun only, the second is a touch muzzle heavy, but not excessively so. It is .725 at the muzzle and 23 1/2" long. Balances 1" in front of the receiver with a 12x Leupold mounted. Not a bad compromise for shooting prone, off sticks, or a bench.
