Thin Shell Walnut
Just curious, all my life I have heard how the old world walnut trees are being depleted. My question is are there any replanting efforts being done, in France, Turkey, Russia, Iran, etc.? My guess is no, since the maturation is so slow.

I believe Roger Vardy is doing this in Australia.

That is good to hear, although who knows whether it will matter in 100 plus years. Don't know why I should worry, since I have been sitting on two blanks for over 30 years. Someday.

Yes, California and Oregon are full of thin shell walnut trees. It is probably equally a matter of the conditions under which walnut trees grow, as where in the world. Juglans Regia, or English, Circassian, French, and other names, is grown in the US too. But the old growth native trees, are from Black Sea area, but have been planted all over. And the best wood does seen to come from there too.

It's like fine wine, the plant needs to struggle in order to reach its best potential.

Kind of like humans.
