I have a nice custom built rifle that was built off of a pre 64 model 70. I am having ejection issues and wanted to see if anybody new a good Smith I could talk with about the problem.

More than like,y the bolt was opened up foo deep when the action was trued many years ago. ( used a 30-06 action to build a 30-338).

I have replaced extractor and ejector and that is not the problem.

Thanks

Go to 24 hour campfire and look for redneck. Great gunsmith that specializes in Winchester.

Ive done several conversions on standard actions. 2 things that can help is; 1. Replace your magazine box with a magnum box (264,338). 2. replace the follower with a magnum follower(264-338).

When the bolt is out of the gun, inset a round under the extractor and hold the two in level position. Does the round stay under the extractor or does it fall off. The round should defenitely snap under the extractor.

The extractor will not hold a round in the bolt. When you extract the case it falls on top of the magazine followed. The brass is not hitting the bridge or the scope.

I think you are right about the possibility of the bolt face being a little deep (sloppy)...but should be serviceable with a carefully fitted new extractor.

Get a 06 extractor and open it up VERY carefully so you can have plenty of tension..should then extract and eject properly

I have been told the extractors for the pre 64’s and the post 64’s with the controlled round feed are the same. Does anybody know if this is correct?
