.375 RUM on a CRF action - suggestions?

I'm looking to have me a .375 RUM built. I've been looking at a few different custom rifle companies (McMillan, Evolution, Peerless) and also looking at subbing it out myself somewhat by picking up an action and then having a barrel maker chamber and install it on an action I provide, then picking up a McMillan stock to finish it off. For the actions I've been looking at Montana Rifle Company, Granite Mountain, and Dakota so far.

MRC seems the most reasonable from the pricing I've received so far.

I'm just in the beginning stages of looking around, and I'd like any insight or suggestions anyone might have. thanks in advance!

I had Wayne at American Hunting Rifles build mine on his modified CZ action, 26" barrel and Duane Weibe bottom metal. Very pleased with the results! Looks great, shoots even better than it looks. http://www.hunting-rifles.com/

He built a beautiful .416 for my dad as well, he does great work.

For this I want something a little different (plus I'm not the biggest fan of the CZ scope mounting system at the moment)

Unless you're wanting a pure custom build, you might consider searching for a M70 factory chambered in 300 RUM...then you are only a re-barrel away from your 375 RUM CRF rifle. Total cost should be south of $2000 for the rifle and re-barrel.

Hello Bobby,

I did my 375 RUM conversion using a Winchester M70 Classic stainless chambered in 375 H&H. Got a Pac-Nor barrel for it, Winchester 300 RUM follower and box. Some milling of the right rail was required to make it feed slick... I love it Wink

I also had wayne at AHR build me a 375 RUM with the siege bottom metal. No muzzle brake and the recoil is tame. His stock design is awesome. I just returned from a safari and shot everything with it loaded with 300 grain north forks. This is a tack driving big bore give Wayne a call you will be happy

IF you decide on a custom build, get a contract with a date certain for delivery AND a $ penalty clause if it is missed.
My custom build using all factory parts except the barrel is now 90 days past the promised date with no date in sight.
If I wanted a 375 RUM with CRF, I would buy a Model 70 and get it rebored. Simple and inexpensive. You can always get it restocked at some future date if you want to, but you won't have $5000 tied up in something that could take 3 years. There is also really nothing wrong with a 700 either. CRF is "cool" but how many 700s with correct loads have ever failed to work ? If you're paranoid you can always get a SAKO extractor on it.

Bobby, I have a Bansner Ultimate in 10.57 Lazzaroni Meteor (.416) on a CRF Model 70m stainless action. I just had Mark and Tom add 1 1/2 lbs of weight to get it to a decent shooting weight, add a new pad, and re-paint the stock (required when adding weight), so it looks brand new. I don't imagine a re-barrel to 375 RUM would be too much. I could do $2,850 on it, with dies and brass, so you'd be under $4K when done. PM me your email if interested, and I'll send pix. You won't do better than a Bansner.

Either Biebs--rework or AHR's entry that Russell talked about would be the way that I would go. I'm a lefty and have no such luck, my 375 RUM is built on a good ol Remington 700 that was worked over by Bill Wiseman with single stack mag. I really like the round!!!

I just got back with it...It took everything from a 2000 lb Livingston Eland--to a 6ft bushveld cobra!

Buy a good used whitworth in 375 H&H and have it rechambered to 375 Weatherby (about $100 for the rechamber). You'll be able to shoot 300g bullets at 2700 fps, and still be able to shoot 375 H&H in a pinch should you want to.

Regards,

Chuck
