Ok, I need to decide on a stock for my VZ24 action 500AR.

My budget on this part of the build is faded, im looking for some nice wood hopefully for less than $400, or possibly some really nice looking Laminated wood.

Where are good places to shop? The stock of course needs to be unfinished.

Brando,
Are you looking for a profiled stock or a blank? I have a very nice blank for sale. If you are interested, send me a pm and I will give you details, and pics.

However if you are going for deep box they will not help much.

Im just undecided right now...Not sure if I want the black tip on the wood or not...

I know I want some checkering done on it, man this is so hard to make a decision on this.

At first I thought I might put a laminated wood stock. But I already have plent of laminated wood stocks. Plus this rifle is special in every way, so why should I stop with the stock?

So I guess I want some form of wood with some nice checkering. $400 or less is pretty reasonable for the unfishished stock. I figure $500 after getting the grips checkered and finished and sit tot he barrel action.

Deep Box - Are you using the original box or did you buy a new one to take more cartridges?

Very important!!!!!

Also, are you prepred to do the inletting - Do you have the tools and a sense of what it is going to entail?

If not, I suggest that you have your action bedded into a copy stock first, and then have the stock inletted. That way there will be very minimal inletting to do.

Al Lind does this kind of work.

Im definately not in any hurry. I havent even got the action sent to the smith yet. I still need to order some head stamped brass and bullet so I can roll up some dummy rounds for the feed work.

I need to talk with my smith and see what route he wants to take with the box I guess. We haven't discussed that yet. I was planning on having him do everything, but I may just have him stop at a completed barreled action and then send the barreled action to the stock maker of my choice.

And No I havent purchased a deeper box magazine to accept more rounds. The M98 I have is chambered in 300 Win Mag and the only work its had done is have the bolt bent over and scope mounting hole drilled and tapped. WIth the caliber im going with and my action right now, I should be able to fit 3+1 as it sits.

I dont see why I couldnt? Im not changing the brass diameter. the 300 Win Mag and my 500AR are the same diameter and the bullet is smaller then the brass. and the 300 Win Mag fit 3+1 in this action.

I guess what im going to do is after I get my brass and dummy rounds rolled. I will make me another post and get some recomendations on anything I will need to do to my action.

As I ahve said many times before, Im new to rifle building. But im the type of guy if im going to be pay to have this done, I want it to be right. and in my mind "rigth way" would be able to hold at a minimum of 3+1 in the rifle.

Ask Jeffee. He designed them. He'll know.

I would suggest a stock like this but it cost me$1220.00 shipped to my door. That might be a little out of your price range. To be honest it is out of mine but I was working lots of overtime and bought it anyway!

JeffeOsso recommended I search hunterbid.com before I purchased anywhere else. He was thinking I would go for $400-600 range. Chatting with Trez Hensley convinced me that the best way to improve the WOW factor is to spend $1000 more on the stock. The stock is usually the first thing to catch one's eyes.
