Springfield bottom metal...Dubell-Kobe Makers
Here's one I just finished up. Jim Dubell did the metal work on this 35 Whelen. James Kobe did the stockwork. Should turn out to be a real nice rifle. Don't see too many Springfields anymore. Kinda makes them unique! This is the second one I've worked on for this client. First one was for his son. This one will be for him as will the last one, a 25-06, that Wiebe is doing the metal and stockwork. It's the next engraving job in the rotation.

Very nice tease ! I can't wait to see they complete rifle now.

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

Dubell was and Kobe is.

The hinged floorplate conversion that Jim did to the original bottom metal is nothing short of ingenious.

Outstanding. I think the Springfield is one of the finest rifles ever made!

I would love to see details of the triggerguard latch.

Beautiful work . . . and on a Springfield to boot. Hard to find a smoother action than a Springfield. Owner is a lucky man.

I shipped the metal back to Jim Kobe. I am hoping he has the time to take some photos of the finished rifle. Maybe he would be so kind as to include some pics of the latch system

Unique central emblem design, pardon my ignorance but what is the meaning or significance? Are those initials? The remainder of the design is stunning and perfect. While obviously well done, this looks ???? Intriguing, interesting and I am befuddled.

It's a monogram and yes it's designed to be slightly complicated. Why? Haven't a clue...tradition? Some like it, some don't. You would be surprised to know that it takes a lot of time and effort to come up with a bucket of snakes that has at least an element of symmetry.

The initials are TMC. The shading is different on each letter. Easier to trace the letters out if you know that.

Thanks Roger

Knowing the initials, I can see the T and C, the M takes more faith. Clearly intricate and well done. As they say, each to his own, as long as the person who commissioned and paid for that likes it, all is good.

I hope Mr Kobe graces these pages with pictures of the completed project. I would love to see more of the floor plate catch, and am interested in seeing his cutoff treatment

Is the triggerguard a standard Springfield modified to a hinged floor plate? Think folks are looking for detail of the conversion. Looks great.

I don't have the bottom metal here any longer and after considering the situation. I have decided that it wouldn't be appropriate for me to provide info or photography of work that another craftsman has spent the time to develop. I'm sure that with a little thought and ingenuity you guys can develop your own solution for a latch system.

Perfect?

I don't have to be perfect to understand the difference between right and wrong. Passing out Jim's intellectual property is beyond the pale.

If that offends you...well I guess you'll just have to adjust to being part of the perpetually offended class so popular in today's society.

Sorry, Roger, I think Brice was commenting on the perfection of your work, not having a dig at you not displaying Duane's ideas for all to copy (or appreciate) as the case may be.

I say this because i was thinking your work is really sublime.

I also read it to be a complement for the outstanding work that had been done to the piece rather than a comment on sharing technology secrets.

Another way of saying what he said would have been to have said - It can't get any better than that (which in a sense means perfect!).

I took the post as sarcasm, as it was posted right after I had turned down requests for photography of the conversion.

That's the problem with reading verses the benefit of voice inflection.

I haven't heard directly from Brice, but if my inference was wrong, I stand corrected.
