cantshootalickEnfield 1917 question
A couple years ago I saw an Enfield worked over by a custom riflesmith which had the boss on the front of the receiver ground away. Any thoughts on this practice?

dpcdThat was me; I wanted to duplicate what Remington did on the M720. I guess it makes the receiver weaker, theoretically. I ain't worried about it. Remington did not seem to think it mattered.

cantshootalickWould a higher pressure round change your mind?

montea6bAre we talking about the bulge on the right side, like the 1903 has? What's this for anyhow?

dpcdA higher pressure round? It was a 375 H&H. No concern to me. What round do you want to put on one?

30 Caliber Mag FanOK. Not that I would have that done to a M-1917 or an 03' Springfield!!!!
At the risk of being severely flamed, M-1898's don't have the "bulge" I think we are referring to!!!l

dpcdThe 98 Mauser ring is big all over; remember it was the 93 Mauser that we copied for the Springfield.
I figured that if Remington did it on the 720, it was ok to do. Which it was.

montea6bNo flaming from me, I was thinking the same thing. And it's not even on the left side...
