Oh my. The passing of a Legend.

My condolences to his family and friends. RIP Sir.

I believe he was actively stockmaking until very recently. The whole time I have been interested in fine firearms, over 40yrs, he has been a doyen of fine gunmaking.

He was to gunmakers what John Wayne was to cowboys both being bigger than life. A loss to us all. RIP Jerry, I believe that there's a huge stash of quarter-sawn Tessyier now available to you...

While Jerry was known as a stockmaker, he was an equally talented metalsmith

I hate to hear of Mr. Fisher's passing, as others have said here he was a legend. Condolences to friends and family.

As a young man trying to teach myself checkering I studied dads copy of Kennedy's checkering book. I can still see in my mind the picture in the book of a young Jerry Fisher leaning up against the bench with a sanding block in one hand.

Finally got to meet him several years ago at Brownells Job Fair where he would show up just to talk to the gunsmithing school students about gunsmithing and offer them constructive criticism on there work. I had taken one of my Rodgers rifles and a few others for some show and tell. I took the Rodgers over to the booth where he was standing and handed it to him. As he looked it over he got a big old smile on his face. I told him I had some other old rifles at my table if he wanted to walk over there with me. I held out my hand to take the Rodgers so he would not have to carry it across the room, and he pulled it closer to his chest and with a big smile said "I'll carry this". What a fine gentleman. An inspiration to so many. May he rest in his well earned peace.

He was one of the icons in my world yet I never met the man.
That's the kind of shadow he cast.
Our loss.
Condolences to friends and family.

Years ago, when I was trying to establish the identity of the maker of a stock on a rifle I had bought, I had a short telephone conversation with Mr. Fisher. He could not have been more cooperative and helpful. I know that he and my late friend John Buhmiller were close and that was recommendation enough for me. Tempus fugit.

I set by Jerry at one of the NRA banquets about 25 years ago. A real gentleman. I met with him several other times, and after I would shake hands with him I would say "I'm not going to wash that hand for a couple of weeks, Hope some of your talent rubbed off. " He would just just grin and say "no talent, just luck." He will be missed. Bill

The many fine rifles he made during his life, and the lasting respect he earned for his work, will assure his immortality among riflemen and in the gun-making trade.

May he rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear this. I only met Jerry a few times, but he had such a warm heart. When I graduated gunsmithing school I had called him and he spent a half hour on the phone describing what had gone well in his career and things he would do differently. Offering great advice to a guy just starting out.

He will be greatly missed.

Mat he rest in peace. One of my great memories is sitting around his kitchen table along with Jerry, Henry Frank, Dan Goodwin and my very close friend, Ron Long. The collective talent at that table was awe inspiring indeed. He will be fondly remembered for a long time.....Sincere condolences to his family. Luke

I'm sad to hear this. Jerry was very kind and gave advice freely to a young amateur stock maker in his Kalispel shop, too many years ago.

My Workshop Warming Party in 1995 when I moved back to Montana. left to right:Peter Noreen(maker of custom bolt actions), SDH (pouring Black Dog Ale), Atlanta client and Friend Jim Flack, Jerry Fisher, Friends Tim & Kathy and John Barness' head in the background. I was 44 Jerry was 65. I knew Jerry for a very long time.
He was all the great things folk said about him. My favorite Fisher quote is, "I don't do anything half-assed." He worked right up to a few days before his diagnosis and died a short time later. Rest In Peace Jerry~~

I always enjoyed spending time at the guild show with Jerry, and his friend Jim Carkhoff.
Jerry asked me watch his table when he needed a break one year and said if anyone wanted a gun to just get their name and number and the details of what they wanted and he would put them on the list. No deposit required !
I asked why and he said because he was booked far enough in advance anyway and that with no deposit they were less likely to bug him about when it would be done.
