They are not kiln dried. I have been to the "shop" many times.

Also reference Logger2 comments; take them with a grain of salt.

Chris's customer service is great and he stands behind what he sells.

Ramrod knows what he is talking about.

The best person to ask questions of is Chris. Period

Who me??? shocker

I also agree you should contact Chris. I bought a number of blanks from Chris over the last few years. Found him very easy to talk to. I have not bought anything from him since late 2015. I was only looking for pattern or square sawn blanks and his new mega duplicator was using everything he had. So I simply went to another supplier.

When I talked to him I didn't get the impression it was kiln dried. But, I don't remember the question being asked either. What I got from him was the wood was cut into slabs and left to dry. Then blanks were cut when they had an order. How they were dried I have no clue. I "assumed" air dry but key is "assumed"

As I said I bought (or had customers buy and dropped shipped) a number of pattern blanks and usually quarter sawn. Nothing remotely like the two blanks above. I've never had an issue nor have heard of one from people I have cut a Walnut Groove stock for.

Maybe I'm naïve but I see the time to dry and stabilize for a simple straight quarter sawn blank as far less than something like the beautiful ones above.

I never mentioned anywhere that you had said anything about the stocks being kiln dried

I have had no problem with the machining, I figure they are about 90% inletted. Enough wood left for me to make my own mistakes.

I know Chris well enough to know that he stands behind his work.

Your "mister ISIS" comment pretty much proves my point about taking what you say with a grain of salt.

Have a good day.

I posted some pics for ISS on that thread at his request. Chuck very diplomatically made mention of it and I removed it and any posts I had on it as It was taking the topic off subject. He was 100% correct.

Rich started up a new thread and asked me to post the pics there and I did.

I asked that any comments be referred to him when I posted the pics.

Couple of points on this whole mess.

1. Rich needs to learn to post his own pics.

2. I have not "hijacked" this thread.

3. You should try calming down before you type.

4. If anyone has got a question about Walnut Grove, call them, don't rely on what you read here. Ask direct questions about what you have read here and form your own opinions.

A very wise person once told me it takes two people to have an argument.

So........

I leave you with the famous words of Curly Bill; "bye" wave

Chris is too diplomatic to call you a liar.

He has never allowed you any involvement in his business, from Day One.

Neither I or Shane have EVER had any business involvement with Chris other than to buy blanks from him and have him pantagraph them for us.

You are hijacking this thread. Please delete your posts and leave.

I would guess your experience in the industry, if you really have any, was as a janitor.

If I were financially involved with Walnut Grove Gunstocks I would have a lawyer print out your diatribe here and have your sorry ass in court by about Tuesday next week.

I am printing this out and forwarding it to Chris.

Damn I guess I will have to pull my "bye" back in.

I have never loaned any money to Chris or anyone else for that matter. I don't have any to spare! I worked hard for what I get from my retirement. I have a part time job to pay for my toys and occasional trips, not to finance companies.

I have bought or horse traded for maybe ten stocks from Chris. That is as close to financial involvement as I get.

I find him to be a honest and honorable man. That is my opinion.

You do not. That's your opinion and you are certainly entitled to express that.

I have never claimed to be a "gunstock man". I am not.

I do work on gunstocks, my own, and quite frankly I suck at it. Roll Eyes

I do it because I enjoy it, mistakes and all. I have never claimed to be an expert.

When I want something nice done I send it to an expert. I pay what he asks and don't haggle over the price; he deserves every dollar he charges!

You need to take a deep breath and calm down before you have a heart attack. If you are mad at ISS take it out on him. not me!

Whole point of all of this is that people need to form their own opinions of a business. Don't go based just on what you read. Certainly use what you have read to ask direct questions of the representatives of a company you may or may not want to use.

Hope you have a good night

bye wave wave

does that make it a "bye-bye"? wave jumping

I feel sad for this guy. I hope when I get old, I just fall over dead before this happens to me.

Obnoxious is much preferable to pathetic...

good night,

Rich

Try to enjoy the pictures and post opinions. I appreciate both.

I was contacted by a friend who told me that my name was being used in a thread.
I would like to assure anyone reading this that my dealings with Chris have always been professional and courteous.
I wish Chris and his family nothing but success. If you have questions about about Walnut Grove I would suggest you call Chris and visit with him.

On the bottom stock, is that a HUGE defect in the cheek piece, or is my PC just off? If it is, I hope you did not pay a huge sum for it.

both. There was a small inclusion there. Chris showed it to me while it was still on the pantagraph machine. After we took the pictures he picked it out with his knife and is in the process of filling it. You will have to know it is there to see it after he and Darrell are done with it.

And yes, there was a price adjustment. Chris goes to great pains to represent the blank(s) as honestly as he can.

That is to the base of the void. I bet you a coffee that while the void might not be there the flaw will continue to show deeper than .15"

But I've been wrong before.

the stocks have been drying in my shop area. Close to five months now, and still have not split, or checked, or warped, or shown any issues.

I was just looking at them a few minutes ago, hanging vertical on pegs.

If my barrels ever get here...
