Just received a 3X unit from Swift/Blackburn for a post 64 M70, this is the extra deep unit. Tried it on the barreled action and the rigger won' clear the back of the bow; it is too far forward to allow the trigger to fit. Anyone had any experience with this? Am waiting to hear from Swift

I don't know about your trigger loop but I have reshaped the bow on some by placing the unit in a vise and heating to red hot. Use a steel bar of the shape you want rear to be and force it back a little. Some Canjar triggers with a shoe were too close for me.

The Blackburn bow is smaller than standard, reduced in size from the rear quite a bit.

Jim,

Just read this from Jewell on their M70 triggers.
Not all post-64 are created equal?

Description

This is an excellent choice for a factory rifle trigger upgrade. THE JEWELL TRIGGER USES ALL STAINLESS STEEL CONSTRUCTION, THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS ARE CNC MACHINED USING 440C STAINLESS STEEL HEAT TREATED TO RC58 FOR IMPROVED DURABILITY. Trigger comes set from the factory at 1 lb and is fully adjustable from 1-1/2 oz to 3-1/2 lbs. Fits both Pre- and Post-64 model 70 rifles. May require minor fitting to the trigger guard.

Fits both Pre- and Post ‘64 Winchester M70 rifles, right- and left-hand actions which were manufactured in New Haven CT. It WILL NOT fit the MOA trigger group rifles made since 2008. Uses existing safety.

NOTE: This trigger will not fit the latest/newest production model 70.

Complete assembly w/no options.

I get it Jim.
To be more specific, is that BB trigger guard designed only as an exact fit for the post New Havens? This was the point of my post. Apparently, according to Jewell, post-64 Model 70's aren't all created equal. The post new haven's were modified in some way.
Ennyhoo, hope to get some clarification from Swift./Blackburn.

I got it to work with the standard trigger but will not with the Jewell. Talked to Jewell yesterday and they verified that it "... was a problem we found years ago..." Client is still wanting to use the Jewell and will try the Sunny-Hill unit. Only thing is, he don't answer the phone or his email and his mailbox and answering machine is full!

How much less do you need? Any idea?

Couldn't reduce the thickness/polish the back of the trigger and inside the guard loop and adjust the trigger for minimal over travel to get enough clearance?

It will work with Sunny Hill's bottom metal. I use that combination of trigger and bottom metal often. Andy is hard to get hold of. I've told him he needs a secretary. Good guy to deal with once you do.

Or... go back to a standard Win 70 trigger.
Pretty easy to get a fine and smooth release on one.

No, it won't have Arnold Jewell bragging rights, but... About the best factory trigger design of all time. Canjar and Timney still offer their product if must have "custom".
