This is my "first" custom rifle, that is, not built by me.

Barrel is made of Krupp steel, the bottom is marked with proof marks indicating it was made in Suhl somewhere 1935-1939. I forgot to take a picture of the buttplate which is horn, cut in a weave pattern.

Sure love the oldies!

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Beautiful rifle. I bet it really adds to the enjoyment a hunt.

Nice rifle.I like the engraving.I believe it is old style German oak leaf engraving. Not that I know anything about engraving but it just looks pleasant on this rifle.

That type of proofmark was introduced in 1939.

Thank you gentleman, it is definitely one of my prized possessions. I should have taken pictures after I spent about 3 hours cleaning every part. Much of the metal was dull as you can see in the pictures or had oil stains it. After much cleaning it is near perfect now.

TC1, yes, it does. I have only hunted hogs, unsuccessfully, in texas this july, but it was a pleasure! The 7x64 packs a punch but recoil is quite manageable. I hope to do plenty more hunting in the future with it.

Shootaway, the oak leaf engraving was a little odd to me at first but it has grown on me.

heavenknows, 1939-? It is marked with the shield and boot print indicating suhl? When was this proof mark replaced? I had thought at 1939 when the waffenampt took over as the primary proof mark. But then, I am not expert when it comes to German proof marks.

Dago Red, that is a Greener Safety. Commonly seen on shotguns and quite a few German rifles. My drilling also has one. Handy for this rifle as I can set the trigger and then engage the safety. This is a must as the standard trigger pull is about 8lbs, the set trigger is a hair over a pound.

I am currently excited as I am building its "modernized" brother as a show piece. 7x64 with an octagon barrel with integral rib, rear peep sight on custom bases. I cannot decide whether to do a British style stock or a German style stock. I will post the metal work once it is finished and we will go from there.

Wow!

I normally prefer understated english scroll, but I really like this particular oak-leaf style engraving. It looks like it is bas-relief, and appears to be very nicely done.

Imagine what it would cost to have that cut now, at today's prices....
