Had this gun commisioned to showcase the abalities of Verney-Carron to not only make new custom rifles but also to make a custom rifle on a classic action.
Starting with a BRNO ZG47 the gun was barreled with a Lothar Walther barrel in 404J, along with a Recknagel safety & trigger and Webe 404 bottom metal. My only request was to make it look like a modern Mauser Model A.
Now I know this is a tough crowd. Before anyone starts nit picking remember they can do it any way you as the customer likes. Don't like the French grey receiver, they can blue it. Don't like the engraving, then they can do what you want.
Delivery less than a year. This gun was 8mo.

Very nice work Ken. I hope the custom I'm building on the action you sold me will turn out as nice.

What would it cost to duplicate the rifle as shown?

The gun is about $12K as shown, not cheaper than many of the best makers in the US. The big advantage is the delivery time.
BTW, gun weighs 8lb, 6oz with a 24" barrel.

I having V-C make a 6.5x55 on a BRNO H21 small ring action next.

I noted no cross bolts. Are there internal cross bolts ?
How is the rifle bedded ? Is it sighted to a specific load ? What is the length of pill ?

The org 404's did not have cross bolts. The 404 is a low pressure fairly mild cartridge and with the proper wood its not needed. If however you want a gun with cross bolts I can have V-C make a gun to your specs.
The gun was sighted using factory ammo, Norma or Hornady.
LOP is about 15"

Ken, Is V-C's version of French Gray a chemical process? Lots of smoke out there on the subject. Ray

That is a fantastic looking rifle and if they can deliver others like it in a similiar price range they should quickly end up back ordered.

A very handsome looking Mauser rifle. Looks like it would be an absolute joy to own and hunt with.

I guess I'm a suck egg mule. There's fault to be found with almost every rifle...even the finest custom guns. This 404 is nice (especially for the price) but far from perfect. For starters, the checkering is pretty poor.

I wasn't gonna say it, but ditto on the checkering. I've noticed that on some of their doubles too, which otherwise are also very nice.
