Hi all,

Im looking for inspiration for some light engraving (preferably scroll but Im open to ideas) for a Ruger No1 action. I want just enough to break up the flat expanse of the side of the action, nothing too involved. I suppose It would be about 25-50% coverage max.

Please post some pics to give me some ideas, thanks!

I had the same problem with my 1885 Browning , that receiver just begs for some engraving. Rather than scroll work I decided on just a simple picture of an animal , nothing else.
I did the engraving myself so for that it had to be simple as I'm not very skilled at it. For an American 45-70 I thought the appropriate pictures would be a bison [copied from our nickel coin] on one side .The other side I chose an American bald eagle. I searched for drawings of 19 century eagles for that .

Self taught but not very skilled .I do like very simple styles though .That steel is tough stuff with hammer and graver !
The figures are very simple .If someone will post them for me send me your email.

You can dress up that rifle quite nicely with some engraved borders, screw heads and lettering. Quality over quantity every time.

Here's my Ruger. While I like the design on this rifle, I don't think the scroll work is quite up to scratch. But it's unobtrusive enough not to detract.

Hope this helps

Thanks for posting guys, appreciate that.

Stu that's exactly what Im after, understated elegance!! Would it be possible to have a closer look at your No1, could you send through a few pics if you dont mind? There are some other details like sights, quarter rib etc Im still trying to make my mind up on.

Very nice richj and stu! On stu's I personally would have preferred another small scroll in the opposite corner, but it is still beautiful! tu2

Very nice richj, thanks for posting! I think a combo of the bordering of stu's gun and light scroll of rich's gun would look terrific.
