I have seen photos of Model 70 Classics that have a nice little tab of metal attached to the top of top of the bolt release and checkered or in some other way decorated.
Who does this work and approximately how much does it cost?
show a photo of yours if you have one.

I have done a few. Glob on some weld with a wire feed Mig welder. Shape it up with a belt sander then get a metal checkering tool from Brownells. It's not very hard to do. Oh you have to blue it of course.
The Wisner built up bolt release lets you get rid ot the stamped Winchester unit. It really helps get that real Custom Rifle feel when you build a full custom gun. I have a box full of the original ones in the basement if anyone needs one. It is the little things that really add up to a full Custom rifle.

Mark Penrod did one for me, but as part of a complete build. I also have one on a short action M70. It took two gunsmiths, as the first flubed it. Bansner's was the second. They did some extra grinding on the release and cleaned up the underside of the tang. Again, the price included other work and this was over 12 years ago. I can only email photos.

That's what I do. Either that or silver solder a piece on and checker that. Having said that, the aftermarket stops I have seen are nicer. Regards, Bill
Agreed, business sense says not to make something you can buy..But..I rally do like more of a clam shell shape, so end up doing the insensible on occasion.....( condition not unknown)
