Ralf will have professional images for me soon. Now to describe it a bit.The wood has a mirror finish from plenty of oil rubbing. The checkering feels really smooth and fine. The bluing is a matt kind of blue with a very attractive gold inlayed ring in front of the receiver and cartridge identification. The gold is matt and matches the bluing. The wood has a natural dark brown appearance. There is a Mauser trigger lever that is well positioned and fits my finger very well. The whole engraved trigger guard assembly and floor plate, also the grip cap is something really beautiful to look at.The shape of the stock and the contour of the barreled action is perfect. The stock has an ebony forearm tip.The rifle balances very well, sights align easily and the trigger breaks perfectly for accurate offhand shooting and releases a powerful firing pin spring. The magazine fits my cartridges perfectly with very little space for any play. The Vektor action looks like a quality action and Ralf`s bolt handle is slightly extended. For those of you thinking of buying such a rifle let me tell you it is worth it-even if you never hunt with it.

Looks extremely nice from what I can tell, including the engraving which you took some ribbing about. I like the flag safety too instead of the backwards M70 types. Also like the sight distances engraved in windows at the corners of the sight blades, and the checkered square bridge. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. I tried dry firing the rifle next to my CZ and Ruger and it get`s on the target easier than the two.It is a more comfortably fitting rifle. It weighs the same as either of the two rifles.Well there it is.I am glad I let Ralf take all the time in the world to build it.

I shot the rifle today and it shot a good group at 50 and 100yds. Point of impact however was about 5-6 inches low at both 50 and 100yds. I need to order a couple of shorter front bead sights to bring it up. [URL=

Did Ralph say how much lower the front bead would have to be to bring the group up from that point of impact?
|
One of Us |
Fair amount ...any chance it's a 6 o'clock hold vs dead on?...could account or half of that anyway. Truth is, I always anguish about open sighting. Younger guys will almost always shoot s lower group than ...well "experienced" guys.
|
one of us |
It`s exactly that but wouldn`t that bring it lower since it is Ralf who uses a 6'oclock hold?
|
one of us |
No he did not say but that is not difficult to figure out.Ralf wants to know where each of the three stand up sights shoot at 50yds and wants the rear sights and front sight sent back to him.He says he will see if he can do anything with the front sight.Tt seems the front sight ramp is custom made to fit this special sized front sight.

I'm going to guess at around .060"..just for my own education...You're using a spot on hold? Kinda makes you wonder about those five leaf sights from the old days. These days with computers one can theoretically get pretty close, .... I never had a client challenge my 300 yd setting. I know many gunsmiths just tell the customer to take along a file to the range, since it's not realistic to espect all eyes to see the same sight picture.
|
one of us |
Yes I am using a spot on hold.IMO,sight picture is the same for every individual unless someone cannot see properly or is handicapped in some way.If sight picture is not disturbed it will shoot in the same place for everyone and if it is disturbed the rifle wouldn't even group.Anyways Ralf says it is the thinner air.I asked him if it was possible for such a difference and he believes so.
