I met Rick Mason at his booth in the ACGG area at the Dallas Safari Club last Sunday and we chatted about rifles and calibers. I admired a .30-06 he had built for himself and he let me know he had a hole in his schedule and would be happy to build me one just like it. After a bit of bantering about what I would like changed for my personal rifle I left after exchanging contact info with Rick.

Well we firmed up my project today and I put the check in the mail for a deposit on a .35 Whelen that will built on a 1909 Argentine action modified with a Winchester style 2 position safety, a new engraved bolt handle and rust-blued. It will be mated to a 23" Douglas barrel and stocked in American classic style with shadow-line cheekpiece and a Pachmeyer pad at 14.25" LOP in English walnut.

Man, I have two in progress right now and am as nervous as an expectant father... can't wait to get those babies in my hands!

Hi Russell,

Good to see you at DSC.

Nothing like deciding to go forward with a new project and the anticipation!

I like your choice of caliber with the classic style and looking forward to some pics.

I hope to get one of mine done this year as well..

Best,

Jim

Wow, life must really be nice as a banker. Is this how the bank invests the money I deposit?

What deposit? Did you make a deposit? Do you still have a receipt for it?

And Forrest, it is an absolute addiction!
