After seeing the effectiveness of the 358 Win in Burkina this season I decided to get a 35 Whelen done up. After some research here and elsewhere, I decided to buy a new SS Win 70 in 30-06 extreme model and get it rebored to 35 Whelen.

I sent it off to Jes Reboring in Orgeon and am happy to say that my experience dealing with Jess has been very good. He rebored the rifle and sent it back to me in less than a week! The cost was 310 incl shipping!

I am still in the process of working up a load, My rifle seems to like Varget. Below is a target I shot yesterday.

I debated going the rebarelling route which would have cost me double or more than what I paid for a rebore, but think the rebore was as good. I guess 5 shots in a 1" group is pretty decent for a hunting rifle!

Leaving shortly for Zimbabwe so will report on the performance on my return.

I have a 9.3 x 62 he opened up from a 30-06

it's a good shooter

Anyway it matters not, because my experience always has been that of---- a loss of snot and enamel on both sides of the 458 Win----

Can't beat that at all!!

I bought a CZ 550 from a guy that JES has opened up from a 30-06 to a 338-06. It's performed flawlessly for me.

Looking forward to hearing about your Zimbabwe trip.

I have heard a lot of good things about reboring in general and Jes specifically. Seems like the way to go when you have something factories don't chamber.

I'd certainly take an inch for 5 shots on a hunting rifle.

And yet again from another hunter/shooter, thank you for the input and photos. I have been debating with myself sending a 338WM to be rebored to a 358NM with JES. I apprecite your time and recommendation.

By the way, nice groups! I love my 35 Whelens. I know you will love yours. Good luck with it on safari.

Reddy 375,

You should have it re-bored to 9.3x62 instead :-)

I'd love to talk to them about reboring a barrel for me.

If I could just get somebody there to answer the phone.

He rebored a Brno 8x57 to 9.3x62 for me and the work was excellent and turnaround was less than a week. Plus his prices are great!
