This gun belongs to a friend. We have no idea who made it.

This is a lousy picture. (Sorry.) The rest are better.

Engraving on the floorplate. Somebody spent a lot of money to get this gun made.

There's no markings on the gun that would identify the maker or engraver. We are guessing that...

A. Made in USA soon after WWII.

B. The engraving looks kinda Germanic.

C. That's a G & H cheekpiece but a lot of people did that.

D. Nice lines for the era. Somebody spent a lot of money on a .22.

Anybody out there got an idea who made this?

Its a 03 Springfield 22 L.R..By the style of the stock it looks to be a Paul Jaeger with engraving by Claus Willig. I have 2 Jaeger's with the exact style of engraving and stock style. If it is a Jaeger, it would be called their Super Grade. Look on the underside of the barrel or under the butt plate. I noticed that it has a Jaeger grip cap.

Jaeger sounds reasonable. It's a friend's gun and we'll take it apart when he brings it back.

You might try to contact Dietrich Apel at the German Gun Collectors Association web site. He is Paul Jaeger's nephew and worked with him for many years before founding New England Custom Guns, from which he is now retired. He also founded the GGCA.

Some interesting information on the Jaeger shop: http://www.handloadersbench.com/forum5/12191.html

Dietrich is also the Editor of German Hunting Guns website. His mailing address:

Carefully remove the barreled action from the stock and look for gunmaker's information.
