Hello, everyone. I posted about this rifle being checkered or not a year ago..where does the time go! Anyway, the rifle is at stockmakers now waiting it's turn. I think I will go for a nice point pattern on pistol grip & forend..he mentioned a couple of diamonds on the somewhat flat underside would look good..while still providing plenty of uncheckered wood for wear. One thing he mentioned was checkering the side pannels on buttstock..I have seen examples..and old shotguns had this..but there is some curly contrasting grain patterns in there that I really dont want to cover..and I am not too crazy about the look that checkering these flats would give anyway..any thoughts on this? My main question though is I have decided to have front sight installed. Since I kind of vision this rifle as an early English sporting rifle..It does resemble the Farguharson a bit..I was thinking of NECG ramp front. Now they make two styles. a ramp that mounts on top of brl. with one screw..and a ramp with band encircling the barrel. I am thinking the banded type would look nice..do you think this would be appropriate for an early English sporting look? One other thing..the upper ramp surface is offered in either a radiused profile or flat. I was thinking with the angular lines of 1/4 rib & 1/2 oct. brl. the flat topped ramp would be better? Any thoughts on this? Thank you very much!

As far as the side panels go,my stockmaker removed them.It gives a more English slim style of a Jeffery built rifle.Ruger #1's can be blocky around the receiver and this takes that away. If you are following a English pattern,a banded front site is a must. I pray for mud on my boots the day I die... Go see the nights of Africa.....
