Recently there was a discussion somewhere on here about Oberndorf Bottom metal (I can't find it). Anyway, I was going through some of my old catalogs last evening and ran across an old Blackburn Catalog from January of 2003 that contained the following page. Thought it might be interesting to some. ![]()

I was just looking at the SWIFT bullet site. It looks like a person could still get the Oberndorf style bottom metal from them if desired. http://jpgrv.zjbzq.servertrust...gun-metal-s/1818.htm

Has anyone purchased bottom metal from Swift since they acquired Blackburn? Experience? NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

I ordered a Kurz Mauser floormetal from them for an upcoming project. It showed up in short order. Quality part. They did have it in stock and I didn't expect them to quickly fill an order of an item they didn't have in stock or immediate plans to manufacture. Originally I was looking for the Oberndorf style bow but Swift said they wouldn't be making these for at least a year. Client was happy with the Blackburn bow they had in stock. I don't expect them to have the shelves full of items that very few will ever order.

So it would appear that one cannot get an Oberndorf bottom metal from Swift! Or maybe just not one for a very rare Kurz sized mauser action. My question would be why list something if its not available?

It is a fair guess that they will sell 1 Kurz unit for every 1,000 standard M98 units. It follows that they would not want to keep several Kurz variations in stock. I would think they list is because it is available on a special order basis(IOW they have the plans and can build it). Both the Blackburn and the Orbendorf style guard bows will make up into a beautiful rifle. But for a truly classic British-styled sporter, I much prefer the lines of the small Orbendorf bow.

I bought an Oberndorf magnum 416 rigby bottom metal from swift. It seems very nice, and I just love the large Oberndorf guard bow. Wish they offered the large Oberndorf for all their mauser magazines. Matt Matt FISH!! Please check your PM's. I can't figure out how to post pics from photobucket. I have given you temporary access to my photobucket account so you can see the pics. If you can post them on AR, go for it. Matt Matt FISH!! Matt I didn't want to mess with your photos, but you might want to resize them for uploading to AR. I left a number for you. If you want, call sometime and I will teach you how to upload your photos from photobucket to AR. The unit looks very nice indeed, but a bit unfinished. The edges of the triggerguard should be thinner from rounding the triggerguard itself. Perhaps Swift doesn't have that program built in to their Oberndorf units like they do in their Blackburn type units. Maybe a lot of people like it that way! Lets see the rifle that its going on! ![]()
