Takeoff Custom Stock for Sale

Just bought an old sporterized 03A3. I wanted the action for a new project. The rifle I bought has a custom stock I would like to sell. It is a really nice Herter's, circa 1969. It is really high quality straight grained walnut and is well laid out with good straight grain in the butt and some attractive curls and burl in the middle of the forearm where it belongs. It is fitted with the complete set of ivory colored plastic fittings including butt plate (marked by the maker), forend tip and grip cap. They are all set off with black line spacers. I don't know if they were standard, but all three feature molded in checkering panels with fluer-de-lis accents. The light colored stock was apparently given a coat of Herter's French Red Liquid before the finish was applied. Stock is completely finished, with all the internal chisel marks sealed. The stock appears to have been completely chisel inlet, with no apparent rasp or sandpaper marks shwing o the inletting.

I would reuse the stock, but I have another Richard's takeoff for the project which features the heavy, clublike forend I prefer.

I will email pictures on request. (Photobucket now forbids the posting of ivory fitted stocks).

Price is negotiable.

2 things:
WTF about photobucket and ivory?!? I have lots of ivory fitting photos on Photobucket.
and the Herter's fittings are actually plastic, not ivory.

THIS IS A JOKE!!!

I thought this was funny. So did my son in law. I was making a joke about one of the ugliest stocks I have seen in a while.(Including the plastic fittings, which I mentioned).

I don't have a stock for sale, I just chucked it when I took it off. For all the people who have PM'd me wanting to know the price, I am sorry. I will label the next joke as such so everyone knows. I didn't know monte carlo cheekpieces, bad grain and ivory plastic were so popular.

Since you are trying to make something out of a skunky 03-A3 we assumed you were being straight.

Since it's chisel inlet with blackline spacers, Herter's French Red Liquid finish, has molded in and oddly spelled fleur-de-lis checkering, and the price is negotiable, I'll take it for a double sawbuck less four bits. Big Grin

Please send to my brother-from-another-mother's house in Hoboken, C.O.D.

I like satire and irony. I think this is funny too.

What's ironic is that if you really had a stock that fit that description, you could sell it and several more on ebay or gunbroker. It's funny how selecting a few choice words can add to the sales pitch. Some think chizel marks and red liquid stain are a good thing, some wouldn't buy it because of the style, and others get the spoof. Wink The best part to me is the curls and burl in the forend.
