Click on the images to see the full pictures. For some reason, they are cropped here. These are from an Oberndorf Type A take-off barrel in 9.3x62. I made a post a couple years ago asking who might be interested in a set of these if I could find someone to make a run of them. Well, now I have a set to copy. I just need to find someone willing and able to make them. Between AR and the Nitro Express forum, about seven folks expressed serious interest in one. I would like a couple. Is this a dumb idea, or can a run of these be made for a reasonable price? AGAIN!AGAIN! Matt FISH!! The sights are going in the mail tomorrow to a fellow who has experience making sights. If you want one, let me know. If enough folks show GENUINE interest, and the sights can be made at a reasonable price, then this just might happen. To the best of my knowledge, these particular sights haven’t been made since before we bombed the Oberndorf factory. As most of you know, DPCD has been making a run of Type A barrels the last couple years. I have two Gottfried Prechtl reproduction Oberndorf banded ramp front sights on order through Steve Bertram. One is 17mm and originally for 404 Jeff/10.75x68 (about 0.667” muzzle diameter) but should work for barrels up to .458” bore (DPCD has recently been doing 400 Whelens ). The other is 15mm (about .588” muzzle diameter) I had an 8x60 Oberndorf take-off barrel with this same size sight and muzzle diameter, and both the 9.3x62 take off barrel and my original 1939 Type A 9.3x62 have this size sight/muzzle diameter. These are currently the only two sizes that Gorrfried Prechtl advertises. Matt FISH!! I’d be interested in a couple, perhaps more if the price is right. Who is making them? What force or guile could not subdue, Thro' many warlike ages, Is wrought now by a coward few, For hireling traitor's wages.

No one is making them yet, but I’m sending my set to the fella you directed me to. Matt FISH!! Wonder..if the participants here are aware of the leaf sights offered by Recknagel (NECG in this country) They make up to one standing three folding and can be made to look exactly like the illustrated Mauser sights...granted, if you really have to have open sights out to 500 yds,..gotta make your own

I’m sure just about everyone knows about the recknagel parts, and perhaps there won’t be a herd of folks breaking down the doors for one of these sights, but there are some purists out there, like me, that want them. I doubt that I’ll ever use any of the leaves, ever, and I bet they were/are rarely used. Matt FISH!! I would be interested, but it depends on the price. I am building an "English" style .275 Rigby and those might look real good on it...

DPCD's thiner 1908 Rigby contour would work great for a 7x57. While I am hoping to get as many folks as possible to agree to buy one of these sights, I personally would opt for a two-leaf sight, more similar to what rigby used, if building a 7x57. However, if we can get a run of these sights made, and you want one in 7x57, that would be great! From a practical standpoint, 5 sight leaves graduated to 500 yards makes more sense for a 7x57 than for a 9.3x62m 10.75, or 404. I am with you that, if nothing else, the Type A sights just "look cool"! Matt FISH!! Its a lot of labor and very time consuming, goes a little faster after the one standing is sighted in..I have done a couple of them and they do work quite well up to about 300 yards or better, gets quirky at 400 and 500 as you simply cannot see your target in any manor was my experience, however I could shoot a large but decent group of about 3 ft, sometimes 2 ft. and some of those hits would have been a killing shot..IMO irons of any kind are best at 200 yards and start to decline at around 300..A scope declines at 400 and gets seriously bad at 500..on a sporting rifle with a hunting scope..Im not a sniper nor shoot sniper rifles but they are extremely accurate to those that are schooled in such stuff, but Id bet dollars to donuts in the field they are responsible for their share of wounded animals..
