I was able to cut three fancy blanks from a large but dead ash tree. Here's one of them.

I'll post more photos as the project gets completed.

Wow, that is a beautiful piece of wood! I have never been a huge fan of light woods, but that certainly has a TON of charm!

That is really nice. Good Work.

I have a dead Mountain Ash stump that is 5 ft long. I didn't know what to do with it. After seeing your photo, maybe I will saw it for a gunstock and see how it looks. Thanks for posting. Brian

I’m interested to know how much that stock weighs compared to a walnut stock turned on the same pattern.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Ditto to those with an aversion of lighter ash/maple, but that’s a great looking stick of wood there!

If this vintage Forestry Service chart is accurate it appears they are nearly identical.
